I was going to clip this speech by Leena Ghrayeb PhD graduate from Michigan. But it is such a great speech I just had to post it in its entirety.
This my friends is what America should aspire to retain, not consign to thought police surveillance. The aim should be the provision of top flight education to EVERY student, regardless of nationality, religion, sexual orientation, or fiscal status.
As a Palestinian American Ghrayeb is I suspect one of the lucky ones who graduated without the cloud of an Authoritarian state hanging over her and her education.
Her passion, her compassion and intelligence should offer hope to everyone because education did its job here. I wish I had the same optimism for the future.
