This is the most honest and prescient statement you’ll hear about what happened on November 3rd, and why what happens next is mission critical to the survival of democracy in America.
I’m a big fan of Jon Favreau and now I’m an even bigger fan, because THIS makes absolute sense to me. He mirrors much of how I feel having had time to reflect on the historic statement the American people screamed on November 3rd.
Yes it was a rightfully and resounding repudiation of this regime and the catastrophic damage Trump and his acolytes have done to America. But, it was much more than that. It was Americans putting the political class on notice.
What it was NOT, is an endorsement of a Democratic vision because they NEVER presented one. Democratic leadership and the establishment simply sat back and waited for Trump to crash and burn, while Americans continued to suffer after Democrats failed them in 2024.
There was no proposition to the American people. Instead, that was presented by a bunch of new American political heroes like James Talarico and Abdul El-Sayed. A new breed of Democrats who made an unambiguous case for PEOPLE FIRST politics.
The leadership of their party rode on the coattails of those they didn’t support themselves, people they grudgingly endorsed because they had no vision of their own beyond serving AIPAC and their corporate benefactors.
I have NEVER toed the line when it comes to this embarrassing obsession with being careful not to speak out against Democrats. I’ve spent months speaking up and speaking out, about the importance of a ‘people first’ agenda. The need for a vision and bold ambition. It lost me friends, but the truth has never been a stranger to disapproval.
This was not a blue wave, it was a peopke fueled revolution, the likes of which had not been seen for what seems forever. It was a repudiation of the political class and the damage they have caused to America over decades. Decades when far too many of them chose to enrich themselves and those who sought to exploit and extort the American people.
Too many politicians have made the choice to ride the gravy train, rather than ride to the rescue of hard pressed American families and children who have gone to bed hungry. They became the Vichy governments of corporate America. The collaborators with big money interests, while Americans suffered.
Democratic leadership invested more time silencing progressive voices than listening to the American people screaming for change. Corporate Democrats have been as much of a cancer eating away at social progress, as those who have attempted to dismantle democracy. These are harsh truths, but it speaks to where we find ourselves in this once in a lifetime moment of opportunity.
Trust in politicians remains at an all time low. They have FAILED the people who elected them to serve and protect them. In 2024, Democratic leadership were prepared to let a man they knew not to be fit to serve, run for a second term. They chased the votes of the monied while abandoning the working class they claimed to represent. The vulnerable were left abandoned at the mercy of a narcissistic liar and cheat, a man who promised them the world and delivered NOTHING but suffering and a cost of living nightmare.
After all that, Democrats had the audacity to blame voters for not listening to their ‘Vote for us because the other guy’s a fascist’ messaging. Telling them instead, they got what they deserved. 90 million people sat on their hands in 2024 because the only two choices they had were Republican or Republican lite.
Millions of those who last Tuesday turned out to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH were NOT Democrats. They were people who were left with no alternative but to label themselves INDEPENDENTS, because they had lost faith and trust in politicians to deliver for them and their loved ones.
America has handed Democrats ONE LAST CHANCE to do the right thing.. in return, Schumer and Jeffries response appear to be handing corporate America a new blue suit to slip on, as they prepare the ground to skip accountability for the monsters who attempted to burn the system to the ground while the American people were trapped inside.
After two years of sitting on their fat asses doing fuck all, while Trump tortured those they abandoned in 2024, these appeasers appear to be offering just more of the same old same old. It’s NOT good enough, they’re failing to meet the moment. This is a moment in which to put people before party and personal ambition. It’s time to step aside to allow a new breed of conviction politicians to DO SOMETHING, and get the work of the American people done.
