It not that I am old really just sad in heart. I’ve been marching as a liberal since I was in college for voting rights women’s rights, gay rights and in 2017. I was one of 750,000 that marched in Los Angeles yet now it seems our are marches go unreported by major news that to me is a decimation of the fourth estate and only Here on sub stack do we get any notification of what is going on in our country ! The Maga world only hears what Trump, etc. want them to hear and their brainwashed that’s how we got elected 1.5% that’s what he got elected by which in my eyes was a set up from the get-go so no I’m not old. I’m just disheartened.
At 81, I HEAR you! I’ve been there—even took my kids to anti-nuke demonstrations when they were little. Remember burning bras? My eldest daughter even got arrested on Mothers Day at the Nevada nuclear test site once in my honor. BUT I GET IT. The dismay and heartbreak of all we have to endure as women in a patriarchal world is difficult enough to navigate as it is BUT having to repeat this endless cycle of protesting IS heartbreaking. It’s as if we’re not learning as a people which allows the worst among us to rise to the top instead of the cream of our intelligence. When you’re our age, albeit we’ve not been here before, it seems like an endless cycle going round and round and we’ve no idea where we’ll land when our painted pony stops (to steal from the great Joni Mitchell) BUT we do know we’re not alone.
Humans survive because the good fights never die with their fallen protesting soldiers. The sparks persist, offspring persist, inspiration and the might of right persists. NO MATTER HOW DESPICABLY ANYONE IN HUMAN HISTORY HAS TRIED—NO ONE CAN KILL THE HUMAN SPIRIT TO LIVE FREE!
I don’t know who will be in power when I leave the planet or the status of our rights but my daughters are independent determined humans who will fight to keep the rights they’ve known—hence progress. You and I and others need to stick around not just to see MAGAS reawakened but to stomp on 47’s grave and celebrate!
This nation WILL come back stronger and more aware of the importance of decent education, character and courage. The USA will again be proud partners of Canada and Mexico and the world will find harmony. Not only will 47, Putin. Netanyahu and other oppressive tyrants be dead but joy will spread because humans will know more about the evil human traits to avoid. This isn’t a pipe dream. Look how millions globally are protesting, showing they understand the lesson. Think how Hispanic voters who believed the lies of 47 now feel as they are targeted for the color of their skin, grabbed off the streets of America, degraded and sent to foreign prisons just for failing to navigate an impossible citizenship process.
THIS, ALL OF IT, IS ONLY TEMPORARY. WE can survive temporary no matter how bleak it looks. If you doubt it—look around you. Look how Ukrainians stand and fight as hard as they can showing us all what heart and ingenuity and a deep love of their land can do. Maybe being disheartened is just our mind’s way of engaging us to the bigger picture—one we’re willing to fight for.

There is a sense the tide is turning at last but with the current news cycle it could go in either direction in the USA. I pray your work will make a difference and the forces of compassion, justice and equality will thrive once more in the USA.

It’s nice to hear we still hold onto the truth as hard as it will be. The religious sect is changing the meaning of our Constitution, Bill of Rights-ultimately through education & church. Earlier this evening a program on TBN did just that-twisted the meanings that signatories were all Christian’s & its writings were meant for building a Christian nation. Coming from Oklahoma it didn’t surprise me-here in the fall new social study books will be rolled out. Inside the new curriculum will be J6 & the election & Christian values. On top of already purchased MAGA bibles….. this is project 2025 coming to fruition. We have been at the bottom in Education, healthcare, highest mortality rate of black pregnant women. All under Republican leadership…Truth still matters…when so much is wrong on nearly every living level. I’m worried more than ever.

For the people of America that are suffering now and the world that is worse off by having Trump as president and project 25 being anacted. There was so much hope when Kamala was running for president. I watch your country and i am devastated and still in shock, that this is happening again. 1940 th are repeating and cruelty is winning. I will never stop believing in and fighting for the good of humanity, but it gets harder every day 😢
