I just feel sick re the whole crash I’m 78 yrs old a Brit worried about my US family worried about UK worried about our world. It’s all desperate now.

Truth Matters's avatar

I care because this is a global threat Elizabeth. You and people like you do not deserve to be treated this way. You deserve better and I’m here to ensure your voice is heard. We have our own problems in Europe, but right now the U.S. is the focus.

Elizabeth's avatar

Yes agreed US is the focus A. Because of its mighty power and B. I guess because we fought with them against this ideology not that long ago .

Be prepared to Resist, Elizabeth.

The US is the front lines, but Canada is threatened, along with Greenland & Panama.

And Putin & Lukashenko & Netanyahu & Modi & Orban & too many others are also emboldened, as are populist parties across the Commonwealth and beyond.

Be safe, but be prepared.

Thank *you*, Elizabeth.

When we know what we’re fighting for, all irrelevancies fall away.

Hang in there, Elizabeth! We're also in mid-70s, in Oz, looking on in absolute amazement and disgust. The Rest of World (RoW) will get through this, and we'll get out the other side, as your forebears did. Our military was also there with the Canucks and Kiwis, and we know what is right - what passes the pub test. This BS doesn't!

Excellent report….disturbing, to say the least, but here we are.

Thank you my friend. It’s never easy to deliver hard truths, but we can only fight this cancer armed with the facts.

Stay safe my friend

There are so many hidden agendas these days flying under the radar, influencing decisions, and you have let us know about another…. Hidden agendas have always been part of the political scene I know, but between the distracting EO’s, the crashing markets, the daily emergencies of the wrong people being sent to El Salvador and sensitive info going out over Signal and Trump with a flourish of his evil black marker disenfranchising married women (I thought they LIKED women to be married, I guess just married and unempowered), never mind the EO’s that aren’t even mentioned in the news, it is all exhausting yet critical to pay attention to. The bottom line hidden agenda for trump that I pay attention to is: he is fighting for his life. Should he ever leave off President, he will be subject law suits, jail time, huge fines and he doesn’t like the prospect of sitting in court again. I think that while we thought he was dozing, his subconscious mind was creating more and more ways to punish us all…. Thank you for your work.

Oh, they like women to be married. But it's the Old Testament marriage where the woman becomes property of the man. A good wife "submits to the will of her husband in all things" (including sex of course, she's supposed to be cheerfully available anytime he wants her to be). I strongly suspect JD would prefer for husbands to get an extra vote so they can "vote in the interest of their wives" while the wife gets no voice of her own.

Thank you for taking time to engage Janice, I appreciate it. Not a deal I can add to your observations.

Thanks for that. I learned some things. As frightening as all of this is for me (and all the other Americans who aren't drinking Trump's sploo-I mean koolaid, that last line did make me smile: "I know Elon Musk is." I've been waiting for Elon and Donnie to tear each other apart when their egos or their financial interests became too large for one mansion and bumped into each other. Perhaps that time is now. The question is, what next? I do believe both men stand to profit enormously from buying the dip as well as purchasing more and more companies and facilities as they go bankrupt. But will that be enough to keep Elon a team player as his current companies-along with his own net worth (which seems to be at least as important to these guys as their penis size)-also shed huge chunks of their value? The way I see it, unless they both stick to Trump's plan together, along with Congress and the SC and the rest of the senior WH advisors, it's not clear what will happen. Who would come out on top in a power struggle and what would their new plan be?

It’s a tough call. All I know is Americans are going to hurt and too many are oblivious to just how much right now because inflation is not yet starting to rise as it will. There’s going to be a lot of pain.

Pennies count for more than pride where electoral prospects (always short term) are concerned. Alas you will see many capitulate. That will lead to higher prices, lost jobs abroad anyway, added to long term resentment and lost trust.

Thank you for sharing the facts! So many Americans are ignorant of our history. Rich white men have always used and abused all minorities. I don't like to hear we're "the greatest nation" because we are NOT!

Truth Matters's avatar

You’re most welcome. Facts and history are everything

Fweling queasy: the last ten seconds of the 2nd video in this piece have a pretty incongruous segment of the reporter's voice praying. It is just a bit intense. It's probably worth editing it out to keep things clear and focused.

Fabulous job bringing this all together for us in one neat package!! Kudos to you for outstanding reportage in an age where we are drowning in information but most of it just turns out to be raw sewage. Yours is the crème-de-la-crème!!! 😁👌🏼

Truth Matters's avatar

Wow, I don’t know what to say Jonathan. Thank you so much for your kind words.

Truth can hide in strange places and sadly society has become so polarized that civil discourse is difficult to come by. I think the best I can do is simply tell it as I see it, but that sometimes requires context to provide an easier to understand explanation. I work hard at that, so it’s nice to be appreciated.

I agree. Few Americans know the truth of our history.

My expertise as a scientist and company founder, who has built up research departments and companies in Europe and China, only allows me a limited insight into global political and economic events. Especially as I have wasted a lot of time in recent years, trying to understand the background to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Nonetheless, your analysis is *perfectly compatible* with everything I know!

Of particular concern is the significant divergence in educational attainment among the population — a phenomenon that is particularly prominent in the US, but can be observed in all Western democracies. It leads to a growing section of the population that is susceptible to populist ideas due to inadequate reading, thinking and critical thinking skills. As a result, populists come to power and — due to the lack of human social, political and historical education — lead their countries into disaster.

The big question is how to escape this vicious circle: obvious measures would be significant increase in educational efforts and structural developments in democracy ( which ones? ) that would lead to greater resilience in populism. However, these measures would only be effective in the medium to long-term.
