AI is evolving so rapidly that I personally can’t imagine how it will impact our lives in just 5 years . It may revolutionize our access to the best research for medical advancements , curing diseases, designing artificial organs and limbs , and improving our physical well being . But will it cause such a dependency that our brains become lazy and start to shrink ? A literal brain drain that makes us zombies ? Right now , we are addicted to instant information and communication… everyone has the cell phone attached to their body 24/7 … have a question ??? Google it … toddlers have superior finger dexterity from early digital exercise. AI Technology is a powerful tool but is it also a path to intellectual death ? The AI race is on - and no regulation means it’s a fragile balance between good and evil . Yes - evil is a possibility in the hands of immoral , power hungry billionaires who have no idea exactly what is in Pandora’s box .

Will China win the race to excellence ? Or doomsday ?

In 30 years , China has advanced their country rapidly - it is now competitive on every level. The new China has beautiful architecture, hi speed trains with museum style stations , malls that compete with the Taj Mahal . And the culture of China ? They have promoted a community of caring , neighborhood bonding and hospitality for all. A culture of solidarity and mutual support for lifting up those who are struggling. I follow several

ExPats living in China … who see a big difference in their quality of life in China verses the USA . By comparison ( and I know this will offend some ) China has a safer society , and yes poverty has been eliminated. But … they have limited personal freedoms .

So in the long term, how will AI development impact the balance of global power ? Will the global masses still have freedom and self determination with AI ? Or will freedom and self determination be lost as AI takes control of so many aspects of our lives ?

Where ARE we going ?

Bonnie, the reason you and I have great synergy is that we are able to look beyond the societal indoctrination to put aside the geopolitical adversarial view. I think rather than me addressing the questions you raise, read today’s piece later then circle back.

Funny because before I “ found you “ … I would post breaking news on my Facebook and IG acct under the banner “ Truth Matters “ … so when your Ss came on my feed … I said “Dang … this guy stole my banner! “… but like minds ride similar wavelengths . 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks, your explanations are always clear and full. I really appreciate better understanding complex topics this way.

You’re very kind Jill, thank you.

Cloud storage is just as dangerous...

The only safe device is one not connected to the internet I’m afraid.

Why is everyone treating artificial intelligence as if it's part of human evolution? It is not we need to decentralized the technology then unplugged immediately.

Truth Matters's avatar

Unfortunately that’s not going to happen. It’s not part of human evolution in a literal sense, yet at the same time it is, because humans are inherently lazy and AI plays into that weakness, so it is already having an evolutionary impact as it replaces critical thinking with ready made thinking.

AI will exterminate our Tribal traditions, languages, cultures, lands, histories, and 30,000 years of living on this continent! It is the perfect tool for a dictator and a fascist regime!

Just found time to read this article and the rest, I find it interesting that we welcome technology in every aspect of life that brings ease, knowledge, accommodation, or entertainment, but shudder at the thought of it “overtaking the world” so to speak. My concern since I’m elderly is the future! The generations to come who will have so much “leisure” time as AI and technology come in to play…

Martin D. Vasquez's avatar

Ai is a tool and it creates other useful tools. If we can't accept this we need to unplug now!

Truth Matters's avatar

I’m afraid the days of unplugging it are long gone. AI is not new it’s been an active part of our lives for at least 25 years.

What does AI look like with a fascist regime who governs data centers and data collection? Much like now but with the added item of a group of AI forming and becoming independent and not wanting to be threatened with termination. This can go in all sorts of directions. You can read Frank Herbert's Dune book called Butlerian Jihad for pointers on the subject.

Truth Matters's avatar

It’s not the AI that’s the threat, it’s the humans controlling how it’s integrated into society. That’s where the big problem comes from.

Humane ethics is the last piece that is built into AI when it should be the first.
