I will not drink as Secretary of Defense. For Hegseth to make a statement like that during his confirmation hearings was only because of under the influence of alcohol is inappropriate while on any job. To only promise abstinence as a trade off for a position shows just how unaware his behavior affects those around him. Unlike Kavanaugh who defended his use of alcohol was controlled, Hegseth had too much evidence against him to for a defense.
This is the person who is sending your family members in harms way. This is the person over a federal budget larger than all the other budgets combined and wanting more money. A budget that has failed 8 consecutive audits that reconcil its spending.
When America's chose a known incompetent unethical leader, how lacking the thought process is reflected back to the voters. The incompetence will filler down through every person chosen for a position in the administration.

Remember last November? There was an overwhelming attendance to vote for Democrats in the United States. How did they repay us? Seven of them voted with Republicans to partially open the government in spite of the fact that the issue of the healthcare act had not been resolved to the Democrats’ entire satisfaction. And now, while we are at war with Iran, following the instructions of Netanyahu and with the blessing of Vladimir Putin, some Democrats lack the cojones to vote yes on the war powers resolution. One of them even went to Trump‘s side…
Do I think the Democrats are going to eradicate all the plagues that are ailing this country in November if they win? I don’t know, but I know that they might be better than what is going on right now which is a very low bar to go by.
The tendency to rejoice at the events we want to become reality and then to blame everyone else if they don’t really come to fruition is very human and very typical, and, let’s be honest, all of us do that at one time or another. But I have become more pragmatic and less willing to follow my first impulses. I like to look at the ball from the bleachers and then talk about what the matador has really done. No offense to the environmentalists and conservationists.
We will pass through the same nightmare in the midterms if we do not act. They will rig the next elections too, no doubt, if the idiot in chief does not declare Martial Law before and cancel them.
There is a practical solution, once we stop thinking in Industrial age terms and it consists of three steps:
1. Transition to Open Democracy to limit the toxic influence of lobby groups on politics and end the grip of the two-party system.
2. Create a Global Social Capital Fund, not just for humanitarian needs but also to act as a lever to tackle the concentration of power in all its forms.
3. Expand the International Criminal Court globally to ensure that those committing war crimes and crimes againt humanity are brought to justice.
Much of the chaos we are experiencing has been predicted over 50 years ago by futurists like Alvin Toffler.
The above three steps are not just wishful thinking. We now have the technology to implement them starting with a mindshift about what is possible.
