I have done this in the past, and it was warmly received, so I really do want to share with you, from time to time, the talent of selected writers who have written outstanding pieces. I’m very aware that people are time-poor, and the last thing I want to do is fill inboxes with my recommendations. However, there are times when I stumble upon a piece that should not go unrecognised, and yesterday I came across one by a Hungarian mom and lawyer who wrote about Viktor Orbán's electoral defeat.
I had a brief written exchange with Zsofi last night to commend her on what I thought was an exceptional piece that spoke to the euphoria the country is feeling and to the fact that, because the people spoke so loudly, there was no opportunity to challenge their voices. She said to me:
“I’m just a mother, not a political expert or anything…… I believe there are many lessons to be learned from what has happened here over the last 16 years, and I’m happy if my thoughts can be of any help to the American people”
What makes the piece below so powerful is that she’s, as she puts it, “just a mom”. It’s writing with understated passion for a country she proudly calls home. Her home was taken hostage by a man whose sole purpose was to extort not just the people of Hungary, but the European Union, whose taxpayer money he used to enrich himself as he dismantled democracy while attempting to snuff it out forever.
I hope you find it as informative as I did. I am delighted that Zsofi has agreed to work with me to share the societal road to recovery for a country that stood up and said, ‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’. There are many lessons to be learned from her thoughts because, for her, the road to recovery has been a lived experience.
Please be sure you share your thoughts and appreciation with Zsofi, because this is her work, not mine.

Thank you for forwarding this article to us. I have forwarded it to as many people as I can think of since, as you said, it is important. My $ is spread pretty thin these days, but I’m considering adding another Substack author to my arsenal—yours. Thank you, Martin.
Thank you for sharing. It inspires hope!
