Thank you for this very informative piece, Martin! I, for one, think this is very helpful to know and would be keenly interested in hearing more of your thoughts and observations on the UK side. Please keep them coming.
As an Australian who lived and worked in the UK for most of my life, I’m particularly keen that Andy Burnham should follow through on devolving real power to the regions - something the Tories have opposed in every way possible, because the UK must surely have the most centralised power structure of any country with any claim to rationality. By far.
For example, by contrast to the total lack of independent regional government there, here in little Belgium we have two main regional governments PLUS 11 provinces, all of which have significant power; and that’s on top of all the local councils. And all of these have at least some power to raise their own taxes to cover services.
It always horrifies me that Westminster can simply decree what services the poor local councils have to provide, but also holds almost all their purse-strings. It’s that combination that allowed Osborne to inflict Austerity on everyone but the rich. And of course it pretty much guarantees waste and poor « efficiency » (memo: I HATE that word), feeding - I think deliberately - the sense of all-round failure blighting the country.
I do think everyone is more than ready to see significant change. So, fingers very firmly crossed…
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and perspective. The world is so globally connected that diverse lived experiences from other parts of the world are really essential now more than ever. It is hard to find those that I feel I can trust but I feel you always explain well and have facts to back up your work. Thank you!
You’re welcome. My aim is always to provide a well informed big picture perspective driven by the facts. It’s important to join the dots in what can be complex aspects of geopolitics. - Martin
Ted Gunderson, former FBI chief for LA, talks about Pawns in the Game, written in 1955.
Hopefully you will see the futility of complaining, the goal is to make you complain and complain, all the while sinking deeper into debt. Only the 125% debt-to-GDP ratio matters, which you lightly touched on. It is so outrageous now that the Rothschild bankers and their minions don't have any wiggle room left. That is why they subsidize more violence, more revolutions, more drug and sex trafficking, more weapons sales, no safety. Otherwise, they are afraid the furious people will turn on them the way the Roman mob turned on the Senate and other leaders.
It’s good to know that your country is getting an honorable politician and yes keep us informed how it goes. There was mention of him on Reuters and BBC last night that was kind of bland. I hope USA wakes up from the stupor tRUMP lies and Democratic Party can find new leaders that have integrity and can punch back of all the falsehoods put forth and standup for working people. It would be great if an independent could rise above the R&D but little chance of that happening. How the gardening going?🍓🥕🥒🍅 I will go to one of several local orchards to pick some cherries 🍒 the coming weeks!
I can tell you that the likes of AOC, Zohran Mamdani, Jon Ossoff, Jamie Raskin and Pete Buttigieg would feel very much at home in an Andy Burnham Cabinet, and that’s why I believe that Democrats should take note of what happens as a result of this new era for British politics.
Though I am not fluent in Britain’s political machinations, any governing system that focuses first on the wellbeing of its citizens (not billionaires or the elite class) and lifting them up has made a good start and will reap the rewards they give back to you. The trick is not being deterred from that mission. Best of luck to PM Burnham and may he be successful. ❤️🕊️
Exactly! 🇮🇪 already is, Scotland wants to, and does anyone with half the brains God gave a goose care what those crazy Catholics and Protestants in North Ireland want.

You are most welcome Greg, I think there are definitely lessons to be learned.

(Andy: TAX THE RICH!!! You will be a hero!)
Cheers for the contribution, we are clearly on the same page Robyn. - Martin
Thank you. Great insight to a man very much unknown to me. As a Canadian, I look forward to another ally rather than a bowing sycophant.

Wishing your new man great success in his new role, as long as it benefits the UK's people! 🇬🇧 ❤️
I can't speak for others, but I'd very much like it if you keep us informed of how its going, please. 🙂👍

Certainly is going to be interesting to see what else Mr Burnham does. Good article!
Very interesting! ThankYou

As always, this is "spot on" and permit fit for the week. Thank you.
The only thing that will save England is for it to rejoin the EU.
For England read the UK.
United Kingdom? I think not. Nor Great Britain.
So you want England to remove itself from the UK or Great Britain?
Exactly! 🇮🇪 already is, Scotland wants to, and does anyone with half the brains God gave a goose care what those crazy Catholics and Protestants in North Ireland want.
Carry on then. I’m sure you’ll be very happy, as will the rest of the UK.
As the world turns England will do so within a year. The same as before, probably not.
