I think with those stats on sexual abuse and assault rates, we must face an ugly truth . Man is an opportunistic beast . A species that takes advantage of the weak or vulnerable , who has no issue with deception or trickery , and who takes pleasure in the pursuit of personal pleasure even when they destroy others . In the animal kingdom, lions will kill their own male offspring. It is core to the survival and procreation instinct to maintain superiority in the kingdom . Man is no better . We need to reconcile with the reality that there is real evil and barbarism living among our “ civilized “ cultures . Cannibalism is not that far in our past history. Sacrificing young maidens by removing their hearts was practiced by ancient tribesmen. We think we have evolved…. But clearly many many men are still Neanderthals - full of aggression and chest beating behavior. And how this evil has become so prevalent in present day leadership is just the same as the animal kingdom - only the strong survive . We are beasts … nothing more . The only path forward is to raise awareness about the dangers of barbarism and collectively confront the evil that is in power . In kingdoms where females dominate the species , there is less aggression , more cohesion and more symbiotic interaction.
This is a sick society when so.many children and adults are sexually abused. Sexual abuse leaves a scar forever.
Thanks to the Epstein-Trump saga for bringing this atrocity into the light. Hopefully those who believe the USA is a Christian/ethical nation will recalibrate and end the abuse while punishing the abusers.

I'm grateful she didn't live to see this. Both she and my father fought for England during WWII; my Dad was in the North Africa tank corps until he was captured at the fall in Tobruk and spend the rest of the war as a POW. My mother was with the WRNS at Dover, but it wasn't until after she died that I found out she had not told the truth about what she had actually done. She had been the personal assistant of the naval commander in charge of all communications for D-Day and she took her Oath of Secrecy very seriously, never once telling anyone about her job, which was substantial in the year leading up to D-Day, even after the 50-year expiry of the Secrets Act. I only discovered her role after she died when I found a D-Day Service medal along with a letter of commendation from her commanding officer who outlined what she had contributed. So, for me, doubly glad she knew nothing of this.
I’m so sorry for your loss Fiona, this country owes a debt to all those who helped defeat fascism in Europe. We are living in a fast changing world which I fear is not changing for the better at times.

I wish to bring a matter to your attention that ex-pat Brits like myself are just finding out about. As of next Wed. Feb. 25, anyone born in the UK prior to 1983 can no longer enter the UK on anything other than a British passport! Really! Yes, citizens of many countries as of the same date need an ETA to enter which is very straightforward but not for expats - they MUST have a British passport as they are considered dual citizens. I was born in the UK of British parents in 1950. We emigrated to Canada when I was 3, and I have been a Canadian citizen since 1958. Over the decades I’ve returned to the UK to visit family and friends more times than I can count, but as of next week, I can no longer do so. In fact, I had to cancel an important family reunion taking place in April because there is no way I can get a UK passport in time (a minimum of 8 to 10 weeks now due to the sudden demand). But here’s the kicker, no one knew until mid-January and it was buried in the government’s travel advisory. It would never occur to me to check a British advisory, and unless I missed something, Canada is still a part of the Commonwealth, but that doesn’t seem to matter anymore. What is worse is the why - a total mystery and within less than a week, there are going to be many hundreds of thousands of people like me from around the world unable to enter the UK. While I appreciate you are focused on much larger and vastly more important issues that are affecting the world today, you have a voice and if you have the inclination to use your sources to look into this, many people will be very grateful. Also, as a small aside, thank you for your kind note in response to my comment I sent regarding my great uncle and his relationship to Lawrence of Arabia and the Palestinian issue.
