A comment on growth of holiday spending... (sorry I don't have a reference link). I've heard multiple times that Americans spent more, but got less for their/our money than last year. Spending is also highly skewed by those who are relatively well off. They are the only ones driving growth.

Thank you for this comment, I knew my words might prompt this response. Can I suggest, you tune in to tomorrow’s episode in which I address this.

When comparing spending, it would be highly disingenuous to attempt to use a different point of reference to measure spending other than the standard measurements on which my piece was based.

There is merit in this argument but it does not change the economic fundamentals and this is about the retail industry’s measurement of resilience which is considered strong Cindy.

I hope this explains, but I’m happy to provide further clarification which I think you will find in the next episode.

What is the Present and continuing error is the belief that Truth and Freedom can be protected by an Economic and Political Interest: there MUST be a separate Standard for what THINKING creates (Religious belief, Art, Medicine, Science, Educational approach, etc) notably Cultutal approaches. The Economy is presently based on a Mentality of GREED, but, in a Society founded on Freedom and Fairness, the Mentality driving Economic Considerations must be BROTHER-SISTERHOOD! The value of PEOPLE cannot be the earning power they enjoy from their inherited wealth! The rights resulting from laws and regulations likewise cannot bee distinguished according to Political Power or Material wealth: buying a "get out of jail" (or pay to play) cannot legitimately exist where there is EQUALITY in Justice.

These Three aspects of a Free Society Must exist separately, independently of interference from each other.

We need to start measuring gross domestic well being instead of GDP. The US score would be abysmal.

We can do exactly what is being indicated here...but it needs sacrifice which past generations certainly know how, we need to not be addicted to retail spending. I too advocate buying locally and things by Small businesses.. it's also true that corporate Democrats are not the answer either...we need fresh blood not the same 'ol same 'ol thing...we need radical ideas to benefit the average American, workers and lower income and not provide a feeding trough for the rich to get richer with our money and taxes. We do need radical ideas and change for the majority of Americans, to look outside of the box placed around us, and sacrifice, and perseverance for sure.
