Thank you so much, Martin. I was so - furious - just have no words. Is there no depth to which this, this THING and his enablers won’t sink? I was hoping his execrable speech would finally wake up the Republicans in Congress and Senate, but clearly not.

It was a shot piece because I was so very angry and I didn’t want to place any focus anywhere other than on the families of those who never came home. This is not about the conflict it’s about the gaping wound of loss.

Your post is perfect. I’m so grateful for it.

Exactly. So many families lost their loved ones because of the US's call to arms, and their president disparaging, no, MOCKING, these brave soldiers just brings anger and disgust.

Agree entirely... and I fault G W Bush and Obama for staying silent. There are times for ex-presidents to fade into the background, but their are times when their oaths of office demand that they step forward and call out a lie as a lie.

I didn’t think about this but it’s an excellent point!

When will the US military at the highest levels do the honourable thing and speak up to set their commander-in-chief straight?

Mrs. S's avatar

Active duty military are not allowed to speak out against their commander in chief. They can question orders and decline an illegal order, I understand.

And apparently many leaders have been purged if they aren’t Trump acolytes — And many women and African-American leaders have been removed or forced into early retirement simply because they are women or people of colour-

Truth, I am disheartened by my country, these United States of America are not what was told to me . I understand my country has never been perfect, every country has their demons . I try to keep my pride in President Kennedy, I was born after his presidency, yet came across books on his service in Korea on the PT boats ( I was 6 when I came across these books in my parents garage) So reading about him instilled a pride in me also as I grew and really learned about our history. I still love America faults and all I love our diversity along with our indigenous sisters and brothers , their embodiment in this country is amazing.

This Regime has no clue what happened nor what America is supposed to be! Sorry for the rant but love you all !!

Please don’t be sorry, I am totally with you. I am numb right now. These young men and women, because there were women on the front line, were capable of giving no more than their life in support of this call to action.

It is beyond disgusting for their memory to be trashed by this monster.

It is no surprise. He doesn't care about anybody but himself. American soldiers are suckers and losers to him. NATO soldiers are even less in his tiny mind. If it doesn't enrich him personally and flatter his needy ego it has no value to him. He doesn't even care about his country. He is a waste of a life.

I am reminded of an article, think it was The Halfway Cafe, where they said his grave would get daily doses of yellow water. In perpetuity.

Thank you. And this was superb "in a remarkable and inspiring, selfless moment...... he said he would do it all over again, not for [dirty word], but for true Americans and the many US soldiers he served alongside. That is the very definition of a hero." Indeed it is.

He is a vile and psychologically sick man! Do not give him the satisfaction of believing any deranged thing he says. He’s a sick liar.

My heart is with all of our allies who are hurting as a result of his existence!!!

Thank you, it’s appreciated

I must attest that the overseas parents who lost their loved ones in combat were at the forefront of my mind! The fact that our president is so arrogant, ignorant and selfish that he can’t grasp any concept beyond his own nose is pathetic. We, the majority of American people, are deeply embarrassed. We are proud of NATO. We understand that we’re part of a global community! Hopefully the 30+% of STAY HOME voters will finally get up off their asses.

Thank you Lisa

Thank you for bringing more awareness to this story. tRUmp’s narcissism and need for revenge on what he perceives as slights is disgusting. That he was reinstalled for a second time, after his disgraceful first performance, will be eternal shame on this nation. That he remains there, is a travesty and is facilitating world wide destruction.

Martin, an absolutely excellent post! I'm not particularly articulate, certainly not like you. But I am every bit as disgusted with Donald Trump as you are. Thousands of excellent writers have described him better than I ever could. But the one thing I know unequivocally in my heart of hearts is he is a pretender! He's never been there! He doesn't know what it means to be a soldier, a sailor, an airman, a marine or guardian. For all his bluster and condescension, he knows nothing about us! It's his loss, and he will never be able to rectify his deficiency. All his money, and all his supposed superiority, cannot be substituted for know what we are and what we've done. So, I have a little smile on my face when I think of how hard he tries to denigrate us, because l know he knows he's not in our league!

Thanks Pete, I appreciate your kind words. We are in this together and we will prevail.

We might "feel helpless" but we are not.

We can make the world aware of the sacrifice, the human toll and our love and support for men and women who lay down their lives in the name of freedom.

We can tell their stories and make sure they are heard.

With respect and love,

I have words. Thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifice and thank you for answering the call. Most of all we again apologize that our leader are so spineless as to continue to let this con man represent us on the world stage.

Thank you for your very kind words.

Private Bone Spurs is just angry that he can’t force NATO countries to give him Greenland so he is retaliating, as usual, with the most offensive vitriol. I think most Americans love and appreciate our (previous) allies. DJT will be remembered as the demented scum that he is.

Martin, thank you for so eloquently articulating the sadness of this moment. I love my country, warts and all, but I will never forgive my fellow citizens for putting a highly unqualified person in office again. The damage he and his henchmen have inflicted on the world and our country may never fully heel, but will hopefully prevent authoritarians from taking power in other democracies. Wake up call to the world, you deserve better. Maybe someday soon, we will deserve better too❤️

Thank you for your very kind words. We know that Trump does not represent who America is. It’s the whole reason I’m here and prepared to die on this hill.

Most military service members and veterans voted for bone spurs Trump, who has denigrated them on countless occasions. They have betrayed their oath to the Constitution that Trump is trashing. As a vet, I’m appalled by their fealty to the King of Fools.
