Susan, we’ve seen them. We KNOW the horror of Russian warfare. We KNOW that tens of thousands of children were raped, killed or stolen. The real point is that our seeing them again changes nothing. I also remember President Zelenskyy explaining why he would not wear a suit while his country was being attacked. Thank you for calling it out. Yes … we need loud voices in our congress … they should be screaming about war crimes against Ukraine … they should be standing on the steps of the Capital protesting the US stance against Ukraine. The American public needs to be made fully aware that Trump is not only posing an internal threat by dismantling the US democracy, but also a global threat by embracing the corrupt criminal murderer and dictator in Kreml solely for his own personal benefits, instead of rallying with United States’ friends and allies in Europe in a common effort to save a sovereign democratic nation that was illegally and most brutally attacked by the russian regime with the goal to restore the russian empire.
Ukraine wants to become a contributing member of the West and leave centuries of russian oppression behind them once and for all, and it is in our best interest to do everything we can to make sure they do.

When the full scale invasion happened I found myself in some MAGA association twitter groups. I was there as a British conservative whereupon I found that my brand of conservatism was very different from the MAGA version. I tried at to reason with them for over a year but it was like banging my head against a brick wall.
Perhaps. I don’t believe they all are though. There is a dangerous tendency among politicians to not listen to a portion of the electorate, or worse still call them names. So when Hilary Clinton called Republicans “Deplorable” or when republicans call democrats “communists” it causes damage to both. Same thing is happening in Germany, the UK and many other European countries. The problem is that we also have Russia willing to weaponise all of that against us. So we see pro Russian politicians in Romania - and when the authorities rightly take action against them for electoral fraud, then bad actors in the United States think they can lecture Europe on supposed anti democratic laws.
I do believe that MAGAs are fascists, at least the political, judicial and administrative personnel, and a number of business supporters. Their methods, populist wellspring and anti-democratic, anti-pluralist instincts betray them. So do their revanchist lionising of anyone that supported them, even human traffickers and drug lords. Voters - depends: some will be conservatives tricked into voting for bad actors as you call them. But some are all in with the programme, with embracing Putin and overthrowing the transatlantic alliance in favour of Russia; and with taking revenge on political enemies, which seems to include all women except their own.
This is a brutal and necessary reckoning with the cost of both war and manufactured indifference. The shift from bipartisan support for Ukraine to its politicization by MAGA is a stark reminder of how easily facts are drowned out by propaganda. The real tragedy isn’t just on the battlefield—it’s in the erosion of basic humanity, in the way suffering is now something to be mocked rather than prevented. The numbers are staggering, but the moral collapse is even more so.
