This whole nightmare is an atrocity and a stain on those who were involved. Their history and involvement will not be erased.

You are indeed one of my favorite and most respected authors. Just so you know, right up front:)

And yes, perhaps Trump was the only one who could have brokered this "deal"....however, I do not trust him, nor do I give him any credit for his accomplishment, unless his true intent is indeed to find peace between these two adversaries. In my opinion, his "deal" is anything but peaceful, as the next steps involved in this con will most likely lead to the continuation/completion of genocide on the Palestinian people. It was a desperate choice for the Palestinians........stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place.... sort of a concession. Don't you think? Do you really believe the reason for this "peace" has anything to do with anything other than advancing tRumps personal agenda? Besides his wanting to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, I believe it is a setup for the final annihilation of the Palestinians.

Just my humble opinion based on observations of patterns of behavior....... among narcissistic psychopaths, and their enablers. I hope I am wrong.

take care

I think there may be a lost in translation moment here if you think my praise of Trump is in any way effusive. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT.

The key here is that Netanyahu is a master manipulator, but he knew where the red line was and that Trump would not hesitate to stop supplying arms if he pushed too hard.

No way will he accept a 2 state solution regardless of what anyone says, so we are going to see an interesting dance in the months ahead.

I don’t think the Apartheid system will end and the Palestinians will continue to be a persecuted people because he wants them out of Gaza.

I knew my paragraph on Trump wood prove somewhat controversial, but since when did that concern me?

I have laid out my assessment in what I feel to be a fair assessment. Do I trust Trump? Absolutely NOT, no more than I do Netanyahu, but we have a ceasefire and aid is now ramping up and that’s a big achievement because if anyone thinks Netanyahu would have stopped had it not been for Trump they are wrong. He was prepared to kill them all and not lose a wink of sleep.

We are a long way from peace, but for now children will be fed, urgent medicines and supplies can be shipped. In and there can be some initial stabilization.

I am very flattered that you are a fan of my work, hence my detailed response.

I thought that Trump's endgame was to get his hands on Gaza so that his son-in-law Jared Kushner (and the rest of the Trump family) could redevelop the Gaza Strip into a resort destination.

Truth Matters's avatar

To be determined. We have no idea where this is going, but rest assured the Palestinians are not the priority.

I share your distrust of this “peace” process. Without Palestinian self-determination/state, I don’t believe there can be lasting peace there.

I am surprised that no Israeli signed the Agreement... This is a manipulation and bad news for ☮️ Peace 😞

I'm in total agreement. This is a billionaires-only peace plan

sorry, i am not giving him any credit for this not when aid was denied and more people than necessary died Glad for the hostages but he dragged the war on when he saw no reason for his interference. I don't want anyone to forget the death of USAID and the people it could have supplied that aid to. Did he interfere when the ships carry aid were bordered by Israel and the people on the boats detained and abused. Sorry not an inch does he get from me.

Truth Matters's avatar

I get it, but rest assured without him there would be no ceasefire today. That’s just a simple fact. Netanyahu was prepared to kill them all and that’s not speculation.

I fear you are attempting to offset his action with his inaction to negate what he’s done and I understand that. Emotions are running high and I am on record as saying Trump is the only person I have every hated in my life, but like it or not truth does matter and sometimes it’s uncomfortable.

Great commentary … I share your opinion that Trump ( finally ) made this happen …. It was a simple showdown between two narcissistic and ravingly corrupt politicians who were motivated not by compassion for humanity … but instead by opportunistic greed and hopes for self gratification and profit in “ rebuilding “ of this strip of very contested and valuable land . One only has to examine the number of illegal West Bank Zionist land grabs , and the treatment of THOSE Palestinians to understand the motives and methods utilized to dominate this land - which historically was the homeland of the Palestine peoples for centuries. I expect these rights will continue to be violated and Palestinians will be “ relocated to wonderful beautiful exquisite homes “ per Kushners development deal with the Saudi players .

The nation of Israel will wear the reputation of “wanna be Nazi dominators “ for many years to come for the devastation and suffering imposed on the Gaza people . Hamas as well as, could have stopped this death rampage … but it seems like the very concept of decency and humanity has escaped both sides . A sad truth about men with insatiably taste for power . We can only hope that somewhere in the future someone with great powers will have an epiphany that changes the course of history . Great article 👍🏼.

I am sat here applauding your addition to this conversation Bonnie, you are absolutely spot on. This is not over and it’s going to get worse. I have today made some enquiries about whether I can volunteer in any way to assist on the ground once some basic stabilization measures are in place. I would love to help directly and report at the same time.

Remove all wars throughout history the tomes of beliefs 📖along with unending jabbering and the answer is simple. You can believe whatever the HELL you want 🤷‍♂️ you just CANNOT coerce force demand brutalize or murder others that don’t agree with you 😳as an example 🥸 humanity is long overdue for a wake up call….it’s complicated and yet so simple 🤬FTS

How I read that peace plan: This is largely to grab the Gaza land. Rump has said he wants to build his Gaza Riviera on the coast and this plan is it! He'll even clean up the rubble. And Netyahoo gets those troublesome Palestinians out of there (the handpicked agreeable ones get to stay).

Elizabeth George's avatar

Goodness. With respect, I think you're quite naive if you believe that there isn't something in it for Trump to have "brokered" a deal for peace. As usual he has made no secret of his plans for Gaza, and since Trump is nothing if not a transactional politician, he will doubtless be rewarded with the land he wants to use for Mar-A-Lago on the Mediterranean. He is incapable of tenderness or even a modicum of concern for other people. He has a personality disorder than has caused this and a familial background that has cemented it. I have to say I'm surprised that you've gone in the direction you've traveled with this column.

Truth Matters's avatar

I think you either didn’t read the entire piece or missed the whole point of the piece. At what point did I suggest he’s done what he’s done out of the goodness of his heart?

If you have read my work, you will know what I think of Trump and as for writing about Gaza, I was writing about it when few others dare. I lost nearly 2000 subscribers overnight after the last 3 part series I did.

Trump is entirely transactional and that why Kushner is there. Before you accuse me of being naive, I suggest you circle back after reading my in depth assessment on both Gaza, the West Bank and the implications for the future which will drop a week today.

Elizabeth George's avatar

I did indeed read it. I didn't say that you thought he did it out of the goodness of his heart. What I said was that Trump--as a man with a personality disorder--does nothing to help other people, and I do not see his actions with regard to Gaza in any other light as transactional. He does something to get something, and this is no different. Nor, in my belief, does this resolve any issue other than bringing home those hostages that have survived Israel's repeated bombings of and consequent destruction of Gaza. As for Trump, he negotiated a land deal. The Palestinians in Gaza have lost everything, and I don't believe for a moment that this illusory "ending of hostility" is something about which anyone should be commended. Just my opinion. Netanyahu is a war criminal seeking protection. Trump gave it to him. Both of them are a disgrace to humanity.

Truth Matters's avatar

I think we are basically on the same page, I would not refute anything you say about Trump. He is indeed transactional and could not give a damn about the Palestinians or the Israelis for that matter, we saw that when Netanyahu called Biden to congratulate him in 2020, Trump lost it and saw him as disloyal.

This is about real estate, simple as that, it’s just another opportunity for self enrichment on the misery of others.

My point is, it had to stop and Trump was the only one that could make that happen. We may not like it, but it’s true. I agree that the suffering will continue and indeed it’s likely to get worse, as life is made more and more intolerable in an attempt to force the Palestinians to leave.

The reality is, a ceasefire was needed and aid needs to flood in so that stabilization of the population can happen and he facilitated that. Make no mistake Netanyahu was happy to kill them all. And with the U.S. in his corner NOBODY would have stopped him.

This is respite not peace, but the future is hard to assess right now other than it will not favor the Palestinians.

I am so very glad for the released hostages returning to their families and sad for the ones that died returning to their families for burial. I, like many others do not trust Netanyahu at all and I do not believe that this war is over. I think Bibi will find another way to annihilate the Palestian people. He does not want them there, he does not want a 2 state government and he wants control over them and the area. trump has plans; he's not saying anything yet, but he has plans for the area. Why send Kushner? He was already making deals for condos, etc. Lastly, the media concentrated on Israeli prisoners. Minimal coverage of the almost 2000 prisoners of war in Israel.

Sadly Hamas is a vicious and vile organization. This is the problem psychopaths like Trump, Netanyahu and their cronies and the military leaders of Hamas all feed off misery and pain .

Healing and restoring harmony is a massive task. Aa I take my next breath, I breathe in all these negative emotions of rage, terror, anguish, and desire for vengeance and violence and I breathe out restorative justice , healing and peace. Peace begins with our next breath. There is a peace begins at home conference this month, check this out.

No cynicism required. The Good Friday Agreement (the Northern Ireland agreement which ended many years of conflict in NI and in which the US was involved in negotiating) was, I believe, almost 150 pages long. This Israeli/Palestine ‘peace deal’ is 1 page !

Let’s all pray that a real peace deal can now be negotiated.
