Anyone who’s been fired will understand the impact it can have. For far too many Americans, their wage is the only thing standing between them and an inability to provide for their loved ones.
Data suggests, a little over half of American families live pay check to pay check. Forbes reports that 78% of federal workers live under the same sword of Damocles. The current scale of federal job cuts is difficult to obtain data for at the moment. However, excluding active-duty military and Postal Service employees, the federal workforce is estimated at a little over 2.4 million I understand.
Because much of DOGE’s work is on the basis of shoot first ask questions later, it’s very difficult to analyze the true impact, because of inevitable litigation. For example, in March 1994, Congress passed, and Clinton signed, a bill permitting buyouts of up to $25,000, so it’s unclear how this will impact the offer. But, given the courts have now allowed the scheme to proceed, we can assume the legal challenge has failed at this stage.
First we must get to grips with what is performative politics and what is the truth. There is little doubt, potentially hundreds of thousands of federal employees may lose their jobs. To date, 75,000 have accepted the buyout. One can safely assume, the impact from this on the economy will be deferred, given these workers will allegedly still be being paid. History tells us however, with Musk, these payments may well not materialise. His Twitter acquisition and subsequent stiffing of staff, indicates to me the direction of travel here.
It is not an exaggeration to say, DOGE is perpetuating a holocaust on federal workers. Now before you call me antisemitic, the historical definition of holocaust is described as, ‘a sacrifice in which the offering was burned completely on an altar’. In this case, federal workers are being fiscally sacrificed on the alter of MAGA political dogma.
We can talk about metaphors all day, but the harsh reality is, we are talking about REAL people, real families. These people are not being terminated for failing to do their job. In many cases, they are being terminated for doing their job well. For serving veterans, the disabled and the vulnerable. In the new Gilead, Darwinism is the new Utopia.
What is truly horrific is, Trump has introduced the ‘DOGE Dividend’. This is a calculated and sinister move, to create an illusion that Americans will benefit from their holocaust of the federal workforce. People are cheering on the termination of their neighbors, their family members, their friends because the more DOGE terminate, the more they benefit. Reality is now imitating art, as the Hunger Games have begun. With a media fanfare Musk fired the starting pistol while brandishing a chainsaw on the stage of the new American Politburo.
Be in no doubt, Trump will back away from delivering the 30 pieces of silver. He may reduce it 10 pieces if you’re lucky. The sickening truth is, good people who have spent decades serving their fellow citizens, WILL commit suicide as a result of this made for TV spectacle by convicted criminal.
As I have no idea of the number of federal workers who will eventually lose their jobs, it’s difficult to assess the impact of the inevitable increase in unemployment. Even before the impact of this cull, job numbers have already started to fall, and the markets are suffering losses as a result of the economic uncertainty introduced.
The job numbers for Trump’s first month in office dropped from the 261,000 added in November and 307,000 in December. Economists had expected about 170,000 new jobs in January, but the new figures show just 143,000 jobs added. In addition, Inflation rose to 3%, the highest rate for six months.
Truth is, before we even consider the impact of the culling of the federal workforce, Trump has abjectly failed to deliver on his election promises that is a FACT. This is an economic agenda built on a foundation of sand.
