This is one of the best days I’ve had in a long time. After almost a month of 16–20-hour days without a break, the Truth Matters Project has moved out of my head and into the real world. EVERY person who has supported my work to date has helped make this happen, and I can assure you that the faith and trust you have placed in me made this day possible. I can’t articulate my feelings properly in this moment; “thank you” simply doesn’t seem enough.
As always with me, I want to lay out the facts and manage expectations carefully, putting honesty and transparency front and centre. I had expected to just have a prototype ready in a month, but here we are: what you will see and have an opportunity to play with today is live on the web; it’s VERY REAL and represents just one very small part of a series of daily releases that will cumulatively add to its ability to deliver everything I have promised and then some.
I want to explain how the next few days will work. What’s important is that you understand this is the ‘first swing’. I’ve deliberately split it into modules so I can add functionality each day that builds on the previous day’s release. It’s designed to work on all connected devices and should operate seamlessly across each. Inevitably, issues may arise, but I can only resolve them with your feedback. “Tell us what you think” is in the top menu; it opens an email with the piece name in the subject line. Please don’t limit your feedback to problems; feel free to share your thoughts on navigation and ease of use (or lack thereof) as you play with it.
Keep in mind this isn’t a team effort; it’s one person’s work, with help from Anthropic’s Claude and Claude Code. It took weeks to develop a strategy that lets Claude build the components to my specifications, then we jointly refine the various elements on the fly as visual design elements are layered over the technical framework.
I’m aware that as the system’s power gains more attention, malign actors may well try to silence it. I want to reassure you that while the system currently runs on Google Cloud, we’re building contingencies to ensure it can operate independently of big tech operators. The framework is fully portable, so if it’s attacked, we can get it back up and running quickly with minimal disruption.
Strategic planning is underway to make availability the top priority. Another key part of the project is removing ANY barrier to participation by making it an open-access resource, FREE for all to read FOREVER. No paywalls, just the unvarnished truth for FREE. You won’t even need to log in or provide an email address to use it if you don’t want to.
For clarity, you will be able to subscribe to the site at two levels. One will be a free ‘Count me in’ level: it lets you use everything exactly as you can now without an account, and also lets you save searches and research, and save favourite content from The Library, The Screening Room and the Reading Room, so you can pick up where you left off when you come back.
Further down the line, we'll add an Advocacy Tier. This tier gives members access to research, content creation, and fact-checking tools, plus more. The aim is to provide a personal, private booth where you can do research and create content, with access to some of the tools I use, all without leaving one space set up for your way of working. While none of this exists yet, my aim is for advocacy-tier users to connect their social media accounts so they can post to all with one click, schedule posts, etc. This WOULD be a paid tier because providing the tools costs me, and I have to pass that cost on. For now, it’s just food for thought, but what you’re using today was too, less than two weeks ago.
This project is split into two distinct parts because the Matter of Record site is, and always will be, a nonpartisan primary record source uncontaminated by political opinion and ideology. Truth Matters, however, is a platform for my social advocacy work. At the advocacy tier, access will involve an application to protect the project’s integrity. Applicants will provide their social media handles so I can run a quick vetting analysis. This is NOT designed to allow access only to those who agree with me; it’s just to prevent bad actors from causing trouble.
Back to today, this is the opening module, and it focuses on the written word. It is a live archive of all my Substack work, so the pieces are real posts dating back to early 2025. It shows how the search works and how easy it is to find my opinion on a wide range of issues; if I’ve written it, you can find it. Above all, I want you to take away from this first module that this space is designed to feature content from ANY author, journalist, or reporter. I have a routine built to ingest any Substack publication export and adds that writer’s work to the system.
There is no cost unless the writer wants to use the AI voice feature, which incurs the cost of the tokens required to deliver the narration. Listen uses an AI clone of my voice (ElevenLabs) to read my published words. I can provide a Spanish version, but the writer is responsible for having a Spanish speaker check the narration, as I am arranging now, to identify and fix any errors. There are no hidden costs, and every writer gets access to all the features you see here.
In an upcoming video, I’ll show you how to bring a static Substack piece in the Library to life with interactive elements, so readers can take their own journey through it. Each Substack article stored here will link back to the original piece, and you can create social media graphics either with pre-selected quotes and hooks extracted from the piece (for now, the newest pieces) or by highlighting a text block. That’s just one of several tools across the site that you can explore over the coming days as new modules roll out.
Enjoy playing around, and please don’t forget to use the feedback options to share your experience. This application is designed to feel warm and welcoming; I want to know whether it hits the mark and how I can improve it.
