Well done! You are the Heather Cox Richardson of the British and put History in in its context. It takes a lot of energy, thank you.

I really don’t know what to say. I’m deeply flattered. I’m very much admire Heather’s work.

I agree with every word in this piece. If you ever do see a glimmer of hope please let us know. I have considered leaving the US, but cannot imagine abandoning my country in its time of need.

Truth Matters's avatar

I go in search of hope every day. Rest assured as soon as I have done good news, I’ll be happy to report it. Until then hang on in there.

I knew he was a malignant narcissist and possessed with power and money, but I didn’t realize how so many would enable him to destroy our country! This country is infected with a cancer that is eating our society! We need bold leaders to stand up for those of us who still have decency and love for democracy where the wealth gap gets back to within reason and social programs are restored. Every day seems to bring a new low…the video of our president dropping excrement on citizens from a jet…the people’s house being demolished to build a gaudy ballroom paid for by mega rich who don’t want to pay taxes so that they can wine and done with others obsessed with wealth.

Truth Matters's avatar

I share your frustration Judi

You are correct! The dems were too full of themselves and their aipac money to serve and are still letting us down!!

Certainly on point and quite insightful as usual. Thank you for your work and determination to expose the truth about the ongoing destruction of the American democratic experiment.

Truth Matters's avatar

My pleasure as ever John. Thanks for your support.

Do you mind if I quote you at length in my online conversations with others giving you credit and sending the link to this article?

John, consider my words your words my friend. I consider all my thoughts here ‘open source’ anyone can feel free to cut and paste as required. Of course attribution is always welcome so thank you for reaching out to ask.

Having seen the 2nd segment of "60 Minutes" on Sunday, I wonder how much more time we have to do anything to stop the direction we're headed. Not to mention the issue with the Dominion voting machines being purchased by MAGgots. We could all move away to other countries, but how long will they accept us? Anyway, it's the new WORLD order we're contending with, sooooo???

Thanks for this excellent context.

Truth is so important, and you have stated the truth so clearly that I applaud your every word. I have been talking about “culling” for a long time now. I am elderly and am trying to hang on to my health, my happiness, my comfort. And I know I am on the list. I started looking more closely at fascism, Nazism, and WWII history long before Trump was re-elected. Whenever I read an article about increasing my longevity, I laugh. Why would I want to? There will be no governmental supports or safety-net for me. And I forgot to mention I am female, without a male in my life, but no cats. Just a bird I love dearly. I don’t want to end up on the street, without food, without healthcare, but it is hard to be optimistic. I know that there are no Trumpers who give a damn about whether I live or die, or how I go out. Just another number. All of us Boomers need to hurry up and die, right? I hope and pray I hang on long enough to see these hate-mongers go down and democracy be saved.

Hello Leah, I’m Martin, so nice to virtually meet you. Thank you for your contribution to this important conversation.

I feel your deep sense of dread and although we have never met, I am sending you a virtual hug and an assurance that I will never stop in my quest to tell it as it is.

In our senior years we deserve better and it’s a tragedy that we are it seems moving into an era of social Darwinism. I do believe that together we can still win this fight and I look forward to the ushering in of a new administration that will create a better tomorrow, but I fear Democrats have a lot of work to do.

Stay safe and hang on in there.

Thank you for your words of kindness and understanding. I was just thinking this morning, the 2026 budget plans are readily available online. Why is it that none of our Democrats are talking about the absolutely horrendous cuts to housing assistance? Why is everyone so hesitant to speak out and take a look at what is going to be happening in the short term?

I can’t understand why there is so much denial, or maybe wishful thinking, on the part of so many US citizens. We must look ahead to 2026, it’s right around the corner! Or we will continue to believe the lies and false promises. Our country will be bulldozed into rubble, just like the East Wing of The White House. People need to wake up! Thanks for reading, and responding. God bless you and all who voice the truth.

Remember what Kevin Roberts said about the second American revolution. This is exactly what they want and like this author has said, have very carefully and meticulously planned for. It will be bloodless as long as the left doesn’t try to fight back. I wish people would have listened when people started talking about project 2025. So many idiots ignored the warnings and believed trumps lies about not knowing about and distancing himself from it and we are now embroiled in it. I’d love to move to another country- I just haven’t figured out how to go about it yet.

Truth Matters's avatar

Thank you for your contribution to the conversation. You are correct. People like me were screaming warnings but few were listening until Dem lawmakers finally picked it up way too late.

As a result, the road back is long and hard. It will take a generation to undo the damage done and some of it will never be undone.

We have a tough challenge ahead I fear.

I have been thinking that this is what is happening in America and it’s so frightening. I have applied for Irish citizenship through ancestry. I do feel very guilty bailing out but I see no meaningful rebellion.

I also believe it's true that tRump will be recorded in history as "the monster of his generation", because that's exactly what he is. He has zero human capacity for mercy, forgiveness or compassion. But, I disagree with your article about having to remove the murder part to compare tRump to Hitler. I think he will eventually go there. He may not murder Americans, his people, with bullets and bombs (although ICE is gearing up to do exactly that), but starving people on purpose is still murder. Leaving the vulnerable to fend for themselves, without homes, without food, without medicine, sounds a lot like murder to me. Because it doesn't come with the quickness of a bullet, just makes it even more cruel. They are building the "plantations" of the future with every AI battery stack they force on poor communities. And the cuts to needed services for vulnerable populations will kill people as surely as a bullet would. He will be purposely, intentionally causing death. I dont know the legal definition of "premeditated murder", but I bet his actions already come very close to it.

Truth Matters's avatar

I think you may have missed the subtlety of my words. There is a direct inference to his complicity in genocide and the murder of Ukrainian civilians, then there’s the 200,000 excess deaths during COVID. I think if you read it again, you will see I’m right - Martin

No offense taken. All voices should be heard and considered. I believe that the people who need to hear you are listening.

Civil War or Genocide?

Trump’s Civil War

From The Guardian

“His ruthless use of the national guard to menace cities and political enemies is unprecedented. He is preparing for battle against the ‘enemy within’

But what undermines this new, Nobel-ready look of Trump’s is not only the absurd braggadocio, or even the confusion of the style and optics of peacemaking for the substance and hard graft it requires. It is the fact that he is fomenting war at home on his own citizens. I am not speaking metaphorically. Increasingly, serious analysts not prone to hyperbole are warning that Trump seems bent on provoking a second American civil war. The evidence is piling up.”

Donald Trump claims to be the president of peace, but at home he is fomenting civil war | Jonathan Freedland | The Guardian

Or Genocide

From The Center for Strategic and International Studies

Q1: What is a civil war?

A1: Not all political violence is organized or a harbinger of a civil war. Modern scholarship defines a civil war as a state-based armed conflict between a government and an internal opposition group that results in 1,000 battlefield-related deaths. This cumulative death toll separates civil war from other forms of political violence like terrorism. Furthermore, there needs to be at least some proportion of deaths from both sides of the conflict, or it isn’t a civil war. It is a one-sided violence that, in the extreme, becomes genocide.

Is the United States Headed Toward a Civil War?

Simon Sez's avatar

It did not started yet because the democrats don’t answer how they should and can do it. He is not worth the price of young lives lost for his hubris. No, they will not start a real conflict but be sure that if they must defend themselves and the country, the democrats will obliterate the masked thugs paid from our taxes to terrorize innocent people. A gang of cowards so afraid to be responsible for what they do that they must wear masks!

Only by number the democrats overpower them, to not talk about brains, strategy, tactics, and money. Do not wish a civil war to start, everyone will lose and the country will be decimated for nothing! Just to satisfy the ego of a Big Nothing!

Trump is a mere puppet to the writers of Project 2025. He, unlike Hitler, did not write Project 2025. Throw some embellishments his way and he's yours for the taking. The strings need to be cut to bring him down. The courts (below the SC) are working on a string at a time only to have the SC retie them. Now, how to cut him free, I know bad choice of word, is the task.

Truth Matters's avatar

I’m hearing what you say and I have made the point of him being the useful idiot of the oligarchs for a long time.

However, I disagree he’s not like Hitler, there are some very similar attributes not just to the man, but also his rise to power.

Ebb's avatar

I don't believe he has the intelligence of Hitler enough to write a manifesto. He is basically following what has been laid out for him. Compare this term to the first when the P2025 team were just cutting their teeth. They learned their lessons and have shown him what can really be done. I'm not sure who wrote the post, but they talk about his ratings. The string cutting needs to be done by the poeple as it always has...

Ebb's avatar

Don't get me wrong, I'm not making excuses for his actions, he has chosen to follow. it's just that his ego drives his zest for power.

Ebb's avatar

BTW, love these kind of back and forth to get to a common understanding of where we both stand...

What occurred to me reading this was what a miracle the United States is. That we would be able, even if we imperfectly embodied them, to have such deeply humanitarian perspectives. I take the Statue of Liberty message for granted, but, in thinking about it, we are hot stuff. To make what's being done to us bearable, I think about it getting us connected to that.
