Such a thorough report. But it just makes me disgusted with the response from the US since January. We are allowing this to happen.

Regarding your last paragraph, I would not be surprised if Trump found a "creative" reason (e.g., gaslighting) to help Russia defend itself against military action by a coalition of western countries. We should never underestimate his level of "regard" for V Putin.

Thank you for all your sterling work, Martin; I am reading and sharing as much as I can.

I just read this, and wonder what you think?

Thanks for your kind words Angela. I had read this previously and other pieces with similar claims.

While I would not want to dismiss anything especially given Musk’s involvement, my concern is how difficult it is to re-litigate an election, especially in this climate.

There are court proceedings in play and I am noting progress, but don’t feel inclined to do anything other than observe at this stage.

Yes, it’s really like watching a slow motion car crash from here in Uk

At 78 & mostly housebound, I always look forward to your commentary. You are spot on in your reporting. Now, if only someone or group could offer hope to those of us who despise what is happening to our beloved country but feel hopelessly trapped. We write letters to editors of our newspapers, write to our senators & representatives & stay up-to-date on happenings & of course we vote but feel powerless as we see more & more hateful language from our “leaders.” Thank you for your honesty & skill. Tuning out the cacophony of opinions flying around like mosquitoes is annoying. You columns make sense.

You are most welcome.

Great article. Putin will eat Trump for lunch in Alaska. Our abandonment of brave freedom fighters is disgusting. It's embarrassing to be an American these days.

Current UK government is pro-Ukraine and Europe, but unlikely to rejoin EU. That could change of course if the pro-Trump/Putin Reform party gains power (aided again by Russian troll factories). If any Ukraine territory is annexed by Russia, the "West" should insist Ukraine automatically receives entry to NATO.

Most in this country have No knowledge of the Ukraine/Russia conflict. Putin has demanded for decades that that the US and NATO stay away from Russia’s borders. The war mongers in Washington continued to push. A democratically elected President was overthrown by the US. He wanted a neutral relationship with Russia. Minsk1 and Minsk 2 nearly reached agreements but again the US undermined these treaties. Our military industrial complex runs and owns this country. We want continual wars, upset the balance in countries around the world, try regime change and then justify our position for war and continue to threaten with NATO membership for Ukraine. Putin doesn’t want Ukraine. He wants safe borders. How would Americans feel if China and Russia put military installations on the Mexican border? We’d be in all out war.

Putin is a brutal leader. He watched and waited for years before finally attacking when it was clear that the US and Europe were planning NATO on his border.

We have been duped,

I manipulated and disregarded as Americans for the truth about how this began.

It’s not really a secret that Trump has been a Russian asset for years, even before he became president. There is strong evidence that he was laundering funds for Russian oligarchs and when no western banks would lend him money he received his money from Russia. There is no doubt that Putin aided him in all his elections, if there was collusion or not is beside the point. What are we going to do about it? The Republican Party seems to be just fine with this. What is everyone so afraid of? No one seems to be willing to call him out.

I would argue that the US breached the Budapest Memorandum when it staged the Maidan coup, and installed a puppet government.

At the risk of exposing myself as not being well-informed, how about the nurse who came from Ukraine, in my doctor's office, telling me that Ukraine is not admirable, where it was such a Nazi stronghold before Zelinsky that most Jews, like her family, left to avoid persecution, and that Zelinsky is a not-so-admirable comedian who would do roles onstage naked. I used to go to a nudist colony back in the day, so I'm not anti-naked, but she was pointing out there was something aberrant about it for the president of a country.

I think you need to be careful about making statements like that about Zelenskyy without any real evidence. It's the sort of thing that then gets repeated and embroidered and when one digs deeper there is no real substance.

Of course, if you are a mouthpiece for Putin, then fine, but we all know that he and his gang are about as committed to truth as Trump is.

Am asking, not stating, so I wouldn't think anyone could pick this up and run with it to the detriment of a good cause. I’m not enough of a historian to evaluate that info, but it seemed potentially viable enough, at a time when much wool is pulled over our eyes, to get some conversation about it. No?

Max's avatar

I think "No".

Unless you have facts, spreading stuff that is just hearsay helps those that try to confuse us by generating endless lies. There is no evidence that he ever appeared on stage naked (unless you call a guy with his shirt off, "naked"?!)

SUE Speaks's avatar

That may be what she meant. We are so bamboozled by our media, and it’s different reporting on something than living it, where I thought she presented a topic to talk about. I understand what you’re saying, but the tone of my delivery I don’t think gets me to be quotable for spreading dangerous info. I still would like some conversation about what she said.
