There has never been a better day for the people to be heard on the streets of America than today. No Kings provides an opportunity to state loud and clear that enough is enough. It’s an opportunity to remind this regime that Americans support the military but DO NOT support this illegal war. Trump will be watching closely, and it’s sickening to think that protests today might dictate whether Trump escalates the war to distract from the coverage of overwhelming dissent taking place in cities and towns up and down the country.
There are those on the left who have labelled today’s protests as a meaningless performative vanity project. I would vigorously push back on that notion, not on the central premise that it will move the needle; it won’t. But rather, people need to experience collective dissent in a real-world environment where they can reinforce a sense of community and experience that all-important component of true activism: real-life solidarity.
There is plenty of evidence that one-off mass demonstrations held months apart are ineffective at producing breakthrough political moments, but that does not mean they serve no purpose. I have no problem with creating social media moments; any promotion of anti-regime messaging has a part to play. Today is a day to celebrate dissent with like-minded people. It helps put fuel in the activism fuel tank, and it’s a worthy event for that reason alone.
This is a good time to say that if people are really looking to bring the government to its knees, that power still lies in their hands. It always has and always will, the question is how serious people really are about taking sustained, safe, no-risk action that will work. Below is a statement that I have added to many of my pieces to provide a roadmap for targeted economic disengagement. It holds as true today as it did the day I wrote it in October 2025, after discussing it at length in pieces beforehand.
Americans CAN stop this anytime without being arrested or punished in any way for their actions. STOP SPENDING on all but essential items and shift as much of that essential spending to local businesses. No need to stop eating out, just eat in locally run family eateries (NOT corporate chains). It’s about strategic spending decisions. It’s all about common sense, but if you need more detail, click here for my broader thinking. Given the SCOTUS ruling on tariffs, you now have even more power
There is no case to be made for saying ‘there’s nothing we can do’ It really is very simple, and I would urge you to encourage everyone you know to become part of a sustained act of strategic economic disengagement, because I guarantee just by this most simple of actions, you can unlock the gate on the road back to real American values. A sustained 3-4% drop in consumer spending will occur if Americans have the collective and sustained patriotic determination to say ‘enough is enough’.
America is, in many ways, a strange society held hostage by a predictable inability to be inconvenienced in a modern ‘because I’m worth it’ world. Few cared about Gaza or the Middle East. Indeed, right-wing propaganda and an Israeli-aligned media meant people cared even less, as tens of thousands of innocent women and children were being slaughtered. They largely ignored a campaign of disproportionate, vengeful retribution, actively supported by the US government and Western allies. The successful demonisation of Islam rendered the Palestinians unworthy of sympathy and worthy of hate, as they were dehumanised to provide a permissive environment to commit genocide.
It’s a very refreshing change to see a sizeable portion of the American public recognise that they have been lied to by the Jewish lobby and their own government for decades when it comes to Gaza and apartheid state behaviour. This has extended to where the government applied sanctions against staff from the International Criminal Court for having the audacity to indict Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes.
If you would like to read more of my thoughts on Gaza, I have linked a four-part series below
We are living in a crazy upside-down world where the US sides with war criminals rather than those seeking justice for the innocent. The US government is one that would now rather support its long-time adversary, Russia, in preference to the victim of its illegal invasion.

As a measure of this disregard for the safety of Ukrainian citizens, European NATO members have spent $750 with the US to provide critical missile interceptors and other critical military assets to be supplied to Ukraine now that the US has abandoned the cause. These weapons were to be supplied via the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, a program used by European NATO members to buy U.S.-made weapons for the Ukrainian military. As a result of Trump’s illegal war, these purchased weapons are now under consideration to be diverted to the replenishment of the US inventory. In other words, EU nations pay almost a billion dollars for US weapons that the US now appears to need to divert to fill stocks of missiles, Hegseth claimed, were a bottomless supply.
In the words of Secretary of State Marco Rubio:
“These are military sales through PURL paid for by NATO” … “These are our weapons. These are sales.”
I’m just trying to imagine: if the US had paid European arms manufacturers for critical military hardware and European leaders had done the same, what would the response have been? It’s just another example of American exceptionalism at play. They wonder why nobody trusts the US anymore, as Trump once again suggested yesterday:
“We would have always been there for them, but now, based on their actions, I guess we don't have to be, do we?”
You can argue that it's just usual Trump bluster, but experience tells us to believe what he says and ignore him at your peril. I explained in my piece on March 26th that it really is more complex than Trump just making one of his proclamations, but it’s all part of his ‘bully boy’ approach to being told ‘NO’.
There is little point in speculating on where the Iran War will go, because Trump has a small window before the markets open on Monday. I’m not sure that anything of note will happen over the weekend, except that Trump will continue to reiterate that Iran is begging to do a deal. Having said this, there is no telling what Trump will do when. The only thing I think I can say without fear of contradiction is that Iran is NOT begging for a deal. Why on earth should they?
It’s long-established military doctrine that you can’t win a war from the air. Trump knows that, as do Hegseth and Rubio. Even more important, the Iranian leadership know it too. As an additional red flag, the Houthis dipped their toe in the water yesterday with a ballistic missile attack on Israel. This is just another indicator of the active threat to shipping in the Red Sea.
It seems pretty clear to me that Iran is just attempting to use selective targeted attacks as US missile stocks diminish by the day. The fact that they are considering or may have already started diverting already purchased weapons destined for Ukraine is a clear indicator that missile stocks are a clear vulnerability, as the new daily cost of the war now exceeds &1.8 billion.
The US national debt has now surpassed $39 trillion, with Trump adding over $2 trillion to the total each year. It’s estimated that the number will exceed $40 trillion before the midterm election, with the Brookings Institute projecting a long-term debt-to-GDP ratio of 172%. It goes without saying that if this war results in a global recession, then the US economy, already in big trouble, is heading off a cliff. It’s important that the American people get to grips with the risk here because the convergence of a global recession and AI is a time bomb just waiting to explode.
This is what I mean about keeping abreast of the big picture while Trump is making every effort to distract you with war. He can try to convince you that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz does not affect the US, but once again, he’s lying. Currently, it is having an impact in a whole variety of ways. Gas prices are already up 30%, with diesel up 50%, as Kevin Hassett, the director of the White House National Economic Council, stated :
“[Donald Trump has] a plan for every corner of the disruption, from fertiliser to getting fuel to the West Coast”
Fertiliser and gas are just a couple of the variety of issues resulting from this war, as noted by Gaya Gupta in a piece in The Guardian on 26th March 2026, headed:
Flights, fertiliser, mortgage rates: how the Iran war is raising more than just US gas prices
Gaya notes:
The price increases come as many Americans are already strained by rising housing costs, grocery bills and electricity statements. A Gallup poll released last week found that a third of Americans skipped meals and forewent other needs to afford their healthcare.
She goes on to note:
Alex Jacquez, chief of policy and advocacy at the Groundwork Collaborative, a progressive policy group, said that the impact of oil and gas shortages on the supply chain can be categorized as first-order effects or second-order effects.
First-order effects are the direct impacts of the conflict, and for most consumers, this means higher prices at the gas pump.
Second-order effects are indirect and much broader, with potential impacts to the price of crops, semiconductor chips and medical devices that could eventually stream down to consumers.
I would highly recommend reading the full piece if you want to look at the broader implications. My friends, this is an ‘eyes wide open moment’ in which there has never been a more important time to support independent media, which are becoming the tip of the spear in what has become an existential threat to the future of every American. I am beyond proud to be part of that team, helping people focus on the key threats as they become lost in the chaos of deceit and misdirection.
In the spirit of trying to keep my posts a little shorter rather than overloading people, I haven’t got around to looking at the connection between this conflict and Trump’s imperative to pass the Save America Act, but we’ll do that tomorrow, now that I am back in my writing seat. I have to admit, sat writing is where I now feel at home, and it’s good to be back.

“US debt trap spirals out of control”
I’ve come to terms the debt will never be repaid. It’s not meant to be repaid. It’s meant to destroy everyone’s lives without firing a shot or any bloodshed
Trump is OBSESSED with gold, shiny baubles of no substance whatever.
