The ultimate betrayal of American heroes.

There’s no question there is no other community within our society to whom we owe a bigger debt of gratitude than our veterans.

These are the men and women who have fought for the values and freedoms we all to often take for granted.

While many heroes never made it home, many others returned broken, not only physically, but mentally. To protect us from harm, too many returned home with devastating hidden mental trauma. We have a debt and an obligation to them all. Yet successive governments have failed them on so many levels.

From burn pits to depleted uranium poisoning and many other negligent actions, the men and women who continue to pay the price are those that served their country. The VA should represent the gold standard for care, but tragically, it has become a care desert and that is a plague on all our houses.

Now a convicted criminal sits in the White House and daily parades into the Oval Office before the world’s press, armed with his sharpie ready to destroy the lives of Americans. He does this amidst cheers from his adoring fans, unaware it’s their lives he’s about to destroy without a second thought.

There has NEVER been a US president who has so deliberately lied to the face of veterans, in the full knowledge, he was going to throw them under the bus to give their benefits and a slice of the cost of their treatment to the top 1% of earners in America.

To describe this as a cynical betrayal would be a gross understatement. This is a man who dodged the draft 5 times despite being in good health. A man who called fallen heroes ‘suckers and losers’ A man who when asked about brain injuries suffered by US soldiers in a missile attack on a base in Iraq said, “I heard they had headaches and a couple of other things ...” Time and time again, Trump has shown nothing but disdain for disabled service personnel.

General Mark Miley, who Trump appointment himself as Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a 60 Minutes interview, “Trump’s attitude toward the uniformed services seemed superficial, callous, and, at the deepest human level, repugnant,”

As reported by Axios, Army Captain Luis Avila, who was seriously wounded after five combat tours, appeared in a ceremony with Trump and General Milley. Captain Avila had “lost his leg in an IED attack in Afghanistan, suffered two heart attacks, two strokes, and brain damage as a result of his injuries,” He was invited by General Milley to sing at an Armed Forces Welcome Ceremony in September 2019. Trump berated Milley after the ceremony, telling him "Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded." He then went on to tell Milley to never let the soldier make a public appearance again.

This is who the new Commander in Chief is, so it is absolutely no surprise, to see him now throwing veterans under the bus, just as he threw American allies the Kurds under the bus after they took out ISIS and he took credit for it.

Every American owes a debt of gratitude to these brave men and women and should be calling their Republican representatives to show their outrage at this disgusting act of betrayal.
