As a self employed single woman, I received a letter this week informing me my health insurance premium would be going from $ 1200 per month to $ 1600 as of January 1, with a higher ( $ 9000) deductible, higher copayments, and 20% co insurance. I have not used this insurance in over three years, partly because I have been unable to find a primary care physician. I don't qualify for the premium tax credit, which is fine. What is not fine is how truly broken healthcare is in this country. So hell yes, Dems. Hold out for anything and everything that takes a step in the right direction!

I hear you Robin and I concur with what you are saying.

Hang in there Robin.

I don't see our country going down the toilet maybe economically it's going to take a while to get us back to a median, but we have lived too long with our freedoms and there's more of us than there are of them

I’m glad to hear you say that this was the right thing to do, but the liars in charge are doing so much spinning of the truth that many are going to hold the Dems responsible for the consequences. Trump and the rest of them have an intense hate of anyone who doesn’t think the way they do. They are going to do whatever they can to hurt people just to turn it back on the opposition. I just hope it isn’t too bad, but fear it will be.

The truth matters right Judith?

It’s a bold step as I said, the question really is how long they can hold out as Trump starts shooting the hostages.

Democrats really had no choice and it’s good that they have something to unite on right now.

Your title of this article is perfect. This is coming from an ex-teacher (ex because the job got too difficult for me having multiple sclerosis) who has always believed it to be the most important job in a society. I think the lack of importance put on education in the US is why so many people are fooled by this regime. Now with the defunding of the Department of Education, it’s obvious that they want a dumb population that they can control.

I’m praying that the Dems messaging around this shutdown gets through, but I fear people will have to feel the consequences before they learn.

Than you for your service to education Janine. Education has always been the key to future prosperity. China recognizes that hence the 97% literacy rate and highly educated graduates.

Agreed, when the only power we have is NO we must use it to stop harm. What’s missing, however, is compelling messaging by Democrats. We need to remind voters that by using Reconciliation, the House avoided ANY debate or negotiation on the bill. Why would we believe Republicans will now negotiate after we agree to extend the deadline? Fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me.

The problem may be health care affordability, but, the reason we can’t fix it is because Republicans won’t work with Democrats on anything.

Blame is the wrong thing to argue about. It should be about cause. If you blame Dems for the shutdown, you overlook the good reasons they had for what they did. You can't get the right answer when you're asking the wrong question.

PS: I see some great good possible coming from that military brass event, because it revealed Trump being reprehensible to a powerful audience that totally got it. Now you are seeing reports on Trump's psychotic condition (my favorite: https://youtu.be/l_IWsfLb2xA) and rumbles about removing him.

Truth Matters's avatar

Sorry, was I blaming Dems for the shutdown. I think not, quite the contrary.

SUE Speaks's avatar

No no. It’s what the world has it set up as. It’s all i hear discussed at this hot minute in the media. Who is to blame? Wrong question.

You mean like the right has actively been working on since Reagan by destroying public education and vilifying college education

Are you aware that Trump is a psychopath? Here's one of 12 criteria from the Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version (PCL:SV).

3. Pathological lying, conning and manipulativeness: Stunning ability to lie, even if likely to be caught. Lies can be cunning, sly or manipulative. Callously cheats and cons for gain, distorts truth, bold fearless deceiver, fraud artist, con man, enjoys deception.

There are 11 more criteria and Trump fulfulls all of them quite admirably. Send a reply if you want to know more.

True, and what about the stupidity of Ezra Klein? It’s been observed that fascism actually causes stupidity rather than vice versa. I think it can go either way
