There is no question that the walls are closing in on Trump’s presidency. In the last year, Democrats have flipped 30 seats in special and state legislative elections nationwide, as noted by Mandy Taheri in a Newsweek article on March 25th 2026. She notes :
Democrats and Republicans increasingly view control of state governments as critical to advancing their agendas amid congressional gridlock, especially as court rulings have shifted major policy fights to the states, including abortion, voting rights and electoral maps.
But goes on to point out the uphill challenge when it comes to the Senate:
Democrats have overperformed in special and state elections over the past year. Historically, the president’s party tends to lose seats in midterm election, however, Democrats face a difficult map to take back control of the Senate, needing to hold all of their seats and flip four Republican seats. Republicans hold slim majorities in both chambers of Congress and are seeking to maintain that control in the midterms.
Given public sentiment on the Iran War, the burning question is whether voters will abandon the Republican Party in sufficient numbers in the upcoming midterms to turn US politics on its head yet again? I’m afraid that on this, we seem to be in the lap of the Gods, because nobody knows how desperate and stupid Trump’s actions will become. It’s increasingly pointless to speculate on where this is going, but I suspect in a few days we might have a better answer.
One thing we do know is that Trump’s claim that inflation and gas prices in the US are just a blip is a lie. The new truth is now being baked into economic forecasts through 2027, reflecting the damage to Gulf energy infrastructure. US gas prices are now over $4 a gallon, diesel is above $5 a gallon, and jet fuel is up 134%. To be clear, Trump’s claims that the US is oil-independent mean nothing in the global oil market, so the global economic outlook deteriorates each day this war continues. I would highly recommend reading this blog post from the IMF from March 30th 2026, which brings into focus the impact of the war across the world.
If you’d like a little more context, check out the article by Phillip Inman from The Guardian published on the same day, in which he quotes the IMF statement:
“Although the war could shape the global economy in different ways, all roads lead to higher prices and slower growth,”
Phillip goes on to note:
While some countries that are net exporters of oil and gas, such as the US, will gain from higher fossil fuel prices, the rise in bills for petrol, diesel and food will harm living standards, the analysis found. Businesses are also forecast to come under pressure to raise prices, possibly forcing central banks to raise interest rates to combat inflation.
Why is this important? It is evidence beyond doubt that Trump’s assertion that the war will result in a short-term spike is as much of a fantasy as his US economic progress fairytale.
The IMF blog post notes:
“A short conflict might send oil and gas prices soaring before markets adjust, while a long one could keep energy expensive and strain countries that rely on imports,” the blogpost warned. “Or the world may settle somewhere in between – tensions linger, energy stays costly, and inflation proves hard to tame – with ongoing uncertainty and geopolitical risk.”
If you look at oil futures today, you will see that, on the current trajectory, oil will not return to its pre-war level until 2033. Now, call me old-fashioned, but that’s one hell of a short-term blip.
Trump is living in a fantasy world where he is the emperor ruling over a fantasy US empire at the height of its power, when in reality, he’s a failed leader presiding over a dysfunctional government taxing the bottom 50% of his population out of existence to provide tax breaks for the rich nobles and lords in his feudal kingdom.
What’s coming down the track as a result of his illegal war is not only an economic tsunami, but a societal earthquake that will force half the US population beyond survival mode. Before the conflict even started, 37 million Americans were living below the poverty line. What will that number be if and when this failed ‘excursion’ ends? Don’t rule out the fact that Trump may decide to just walk away and leave the rest of the world to clear up his mess, while he moves on to Cuba, his next extortion target. He has given a clear indication he’s considering this just today.
It’s breathtaking to me that Trump never saw that Iran would attack energy infrastructure and close the Straight of Hormuz. There is absolutely no possibility that military advisors did not make him aware. Never has arrogance and hubris blinded a man to advice more than they have in this moment. He can talk all day about Iran begging him for a deal while he’s threatening to commit war crimes by deliberately bombing civilian infrastructure, just as Putin has done in Ukraine.
On the upside for Ukraine, it has signed lucrative 10-year deals with each of the Gulf states for anti-drone technology. Not that this will make up for the fact that Trump has removed sanctions on Russian oil, allowing them to finance their war efforts. Meanwhile, Trump is now considering diverting interceptor missiles paid for by EU and NATO partners to US stockpiles. You really couldn’t make it up, but Trump does every day.
In the most bizarre twist, Ukraine, who’s enerfy infrastructure has been the target of daily Russian strikes, is not being asked by its European partners to NOT attack Russian energy infrastructure, because of the impact from the Iran war. In short, Zelensky is being shafted from all angles. I simply don’t know how the guy remains so resilient in the face of constant challenges not of his making. The man is truly a legend.
I’m afraid the world has become a passenger held hostage by the warped imperial ambition of a convicted criminal running a transnational extortion racket from the Oval Office. Trump is a man, it seems, who’s about to endanger the lives of thousands of US troops in a ‘Hail Mary mission’ that he himself appears to be unclear about. His objectives change sometimes by the hour. It seems all he wants is, in his words, to ‘take their oil’, which was his intention all along. If he goes ahead, it will be the biggest gamble of his life, but his malignant narcissism blinds him to that reality.
Matters are just made worse by a Secretary of War who used a Pentagon Christian service to state:
“Let every round find its mark against the enemies of righteousness and our great nation,” He said of US troops, “Give them wisdom in every decision, endurance for the trial ahead, unbreakable unity, and overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy.”
In a response seen to be directed at Hegseth’s remarks, Pope Leo sent a clear and unequivocal rebuke stating:
“This is our God: Jesus, king of peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war. He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them.”
Quoting a Bible passage, Leo added: “Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood.”
The administration is attempting to paint this as a religious war, which aligns with Netanyahu’s crusade to deliver ‘Eretz Yisrael Hashlemah’ (Greater Israel) to fulfil God’s covenant with Abraham, based on scriptures that define expansive borders, as described in Genesis 15:18-21, Numbers 34:1-15, and Deuteronomy 11:24.
History tells us over and over that man’s bastardisation of religion to justify murder and state-sponsored violence rarely ends well, but not before the catastrophic suffering of the innocent. Hegseth is the most dangerous religious zealot of all, one with his finger on the trigger of the most powerful army in the world, while on a crusade to eradicate the Islamist enemies of his warped, tiny Christian nationalist mind.
There is no doubt that if Trump doubles down on his failures to date, he will be committing political suicide, sinking not only his presidency but also sealing the fate of the Republican Party way beyond November. A party where, as of March 30th, 36 Republican legislators are scrambling for the exit, having decided to abandon the Good Ship MAGA as it lists starboard, taking on gallons of rejection from the ocean that is the American public. That’s a record for the largest number of retirements for a midterm election cycle since 1930, when America was in the throes of the Great Depression.
It’s for this reason that Trump now faces a fight for his life, and that brings us nicely to the Save America Act, which we will dive into tomorrow.

"An evil enemy will burn his own nation to the ground to rule over the ashes"

This post shows the painful truth. When leaders care more about 'empire' and fantasy than the lives of real people, everyone suffers. As an Afghan veteran who saw how quickly promises are broken, I know that gas prices and inflation are not just blips they are the cost of a war with no plan. We were told America stands for honor, but using religion to justify violence and leang allies behind is not honor. The economic earthquake is coming, and it will hurt the most vulnerable people first. We must stop choosing destruction over our people's future.
