I know the weight of the responsibility to fight back every day is a heavy burden for so many who understandably feel a sense of deep despair. I'm here to tell you to take a moment to breathe.
thank you. people need to hear this. give yourself breaks if you need to and have a moment where you can afford to, let yourself breathe and then come back and keep at it.
also on the complacent Democrats, make sure to call and write your representative every day. at this point I'm just calling my senators every day telling them to bully Chuck Schumer
Thank you for giving us an outside looking in approach to this chaos. Being a citizen of the US is not an easy task, frustrating and demoralizing most days. Your candid and telling insights give hope that while our US “leaders” are deficient in problem solving, be it their own greed, leaders of older and wiser countries will hopefully do what they have to in order to keep a sense of global peace(for lack of a better word). I am steeling myself for the consequences.
Trying to break the will of the people down, make the compliant. Not going to work in this country for the majority. Take time to recharge and care for yourself, it’s going to be a long time before we seen anything peaceful again. Don’t give up.
Thanks, Martin, great insight. Wish I could argue with you, but.... I don't know if we can be fixed/healed, frankly, as so much rides at the institutional level (largely out of reach to the common citizen) that will either make or break us. And there are so many who are not just "drinking the orange Kool-Aid," but have been waiting to drink the Kool-Aid for not just years, but decades. I hope we have the capacity and the resilience to stop, pivot, mend, restore, renew, and change.
I know it’s difficult, and even though I’m a paid up member of the pragmatist society, I still have hope. It’s like searching for gold, it’s out there we just haven’t stumbled upon it yet. I’m afraid there’s too much activism for profit muddying the water with reporting populist fluff, telling people what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear.
Truth does matter, even if only a a hand full of people can and will listen. The final two paragraphs are the truth few talk about. And those waiting for the salvation of voting in mid-term elections (which likely will not happen) and not stepping up today will be as sadly disappointed as I was believing the Mueller Report would answer yesterday’s prayers for truth and accountability.
We’re on the same page Lee, you’d be surprised how many people do listen Lee, a large number of them independents too. I can’t keep track of the emails I receive daily these days. Add to that I’ve got a wealth of new video content in production to extend the messaging. - Martin
Very accurate description. Could not agree more with your historical review and current analysis of our present day dilemma.
Yes, our political system has preached to us about “America the best “, “number 1 “, leader of the world “ but personally as a world wide traveler ??? …. Well let’s just say I’ve seen a lot of progressive technologies, social safety nets and better work life balance in many other places around the globe . Life in the US is not for the weak or weary . Consequently , we look forward to a retirement in Spain , where speed , greed and need are not the focus but instead family , food and community values are primary to the quality of life . We really need an awakening in the US … our values , morals , convictions and priorities are not leading us to fulfillment and happiness. It’s the greed and consumption that has stolen our souls . This is not a 🍊rump phenomenon ( although his need for greed is exemplary) . This addiction goes back to the post depression era , when people were barely surviving and vowed never again to have holes in their soles . But instead today we experience holes in our SOULS. In my travel , visiting ancient ruins of Ephesus , Athens , Rome , Babylon , Istanbul etc …. I wonder how many of the living knew that these great civilizations were dying ? Did they see the signs of their own demise ? The economic disparity? The justice for the rich only ? The heartlessness of the society? Death of compassion? I walk those marble cobblestones and wonder why they didn’t survive ? It’s curious to me that man is his own worst enemy. No other species has the intelligence , wisdom and willful blindness to self destruct . Now that is a depressing thought .
Given the current circumstances, I can understand to some extent the feeling of discouragement and despair!!
But now is not the time to give up!! That is probably the game plan of the current administration…to overwhelm you with fear, hopelessness , and anxiety!!
We’ve been through other traumatic experiences historically.
In due time, we will get through this…stay HOPEFUL!!💫
If you found any sense of capitulation in this post, I’m not doing my job properly. To recognize when to take a time out is an act of resistance in itself.
In America, after WW2 a new class of rich people raised and took over everything, buying politicians and setting presidents like that. The corporations that got very wealthy led the process until we got to today’s disaster to put in charge of the country a puppet - incompetent, crooked, liar, a stupid gangster with a huge ego and sense of entitlement. They sustained him in the worse situations, an insurrection in J6 and the cover of Epstein files that prove he is also involved in children abuse. What else can they do, they did it all and no one stopped them. Moreover, the Supreme Court was bought too, they gave him free hand to do whatever he wants, thus we have no guard rails, no laws anymore. Still, no one does anything to stop the crimes, abuse, lawlessness and the loss of our democracy, making America today a banana republic in the worst sense.
My solution? A civil militia with real targets, slowly and surely, until they all go to hell. Too much? Not at all, still too mild for what they deserve.
I would gather the leaders in cages and leave them in Time Square for the people passing to spit on them!
They want to return to medieval time, let’s give it to them!
Thank you for putting into words the thoughts that have been on my mind for years. I have long since exited the room when the pledge of allegiance is being said. As a citizen of the world I know that the american dream is polished propaganda used to divert our attention from the reality of our lives. Although I do have moments of despair, I choose to live here because I see the goodness of the american people. When a catastrophe hits, we the people are the first ones on the scene to help (regardless of the color of your hat or skin). When fire, flood or hurricane destroys we are there. When ice invades we feed, hide & protect immigrants.
I still have hope that we can achieve the dream. This is the moment in which we are "the better angels of our nature." The great awakening, when we grab our future out of the hands of the greedy and realize that we are one race, the human race. When it has become so clear to so many that we are the only ones that can change this. Although ice seems powerful, this country is huge. It will be impossible to subdue with a small group of uneducated, ill prepared gestapo thugs, unless we let them. Defiance til death.
I call my senators and congressmans too unfortunately I am in a part of TX where all of them stand behind Frtumpy and lick his boots. Jody Arrington, John Cornyn, all of them are complacent and bend at the knees. Same thing goes with the local governing city council, judges, and sheriff's department. I do have to keep in touch with real news and happenings through substack but, I also have found some amazing poetry writers and storytellers I escape to for a journey elsewhere and place to go to read or listen. I can relax and enjoy myself.

I am having a very difficult time with the destruction of our government, society, and world. This post pulled me back from the edge, for today.
Glad to be of service Paula, chin up, best foot forward. - Martin

We have the lived experience of fascism, so we can be objective in a moment when people are being buried under a tsunami of misdirection.
There are many, many people here trying to stop this nightmare. Unfortunately, our politicians on both sides seem to have given up.
No, they get paid to do nothing! Giving up is part of their very well paid job.

How did you know how I'm feeling!! Thank you for sharing and understanding : )
