Martin, this was a grounded, sincere post, and I really appreciate the transparency about your journey and intentions. You’re clearly doing more than just "talking the talk," and it shows.
One thought I’d like to add, especially for the audience here: while many of us may agree that reaching the hard right is near impossible, there’s still a major gap on our side. A lot of left-leaning voters are still waiting for elected representatives to “do something.” But civil engagement is their job, too. That’s where your content really has potential. Not just to inform, but to activate those who already know something is wrong but haven’t yet seen how they can contribute beyond voting.
If you continue creating content that helps people find their lane in this fight, whether through donation, amplification, organizing, or just having better conversations, you'll be helping to fill one of the biggest strategic holes we’ve got right now. I think people are hungry for that kind of direction, especially if it comes from someone who’s already “all in.”
Appreciate everything you’re building here. Looking forward to where it goes.
Steve. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts, I really appreciate it. I have long put my money where my mouth is on this fight and I believe have the credentials to back it up. I’m not here for profit, I’m here to make a difference. I wear my heart on my sleeve and what you see is what you get.
I’m conscious that right now some people are paying to read my thoughts and I’d like to try to turn that into a meaningful contribution to the fight ahead. I may be no Meidas Touch or Lincoln Project, but I’d put my Ads up alongside any I saw in the last cycle.
You are absolutely right, there are a lot of disaffected Dems out there who are searching for direction an I honestly believe that visual content can connect in a meaningful way. I am absolutely committed to that.
I appreciate your plea for $$ but I’m holding back on making discretionary expenditures until I find out if I’ll have social security payments in the coming months.
Sandra Lea, please don’t concern yourself with $$ for me. Your support is payment enough. I am merely looking to translate payments I receive from those who can afford it, into a meaningful investment in this fight. There is NO WAY I would want you to give me ANY part of your social security payment. I’m here to HELP people like you, not take money from you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Stay safe
What a very informative post. I’m a newbie to Substack, just over a month now. Call it a Brit with strong ties to the US needing to rant and rage re the current crisis !! Your stats re Meta having a hold of 70% of US social media attention or users just endorses why I left Facebook just 2 months ago after 17 yrs ! I left Twitter on the day Trump won (not sure about that ) after 12 yrs. Yes I too remember what a great place it was pre Musk I managed 8000 followers in my time and seemed to even have some stalwarts too. Like it or not we can’t turn the clock back as SM is with us now for better or worse. Substack appears to be a decent place. I like blue sky too but of course restrictions on the length of chats. I feel that we need truth more than we’ve ever needed it so with regards to your writing it can only be for the greater good and I will look forward to that. Thank you for lifting my spirits today…
Elizabeth you are most welcome and thank you for taking time to reply to my post. We are indeed in challenging times. I’ve managed to carve out a spot on X for better or for worse and enjoy a 117k following there. It’s not a place to influence voters, just a space to better understand the opposition.
I too am on BlueSky as I stated, but limited characters and short video upload limits don’t fit well with my approach.
Thank you Martin just please keep going.I’ve listened to our BBC news tonight and it comes as no surprise that so many in UK will be affected by the Trump tariffs. How ironic that this brings us even closer to you as we endure your pain. We will win Martin.
Hi. Beware offering your subscribers a role in your content. You never know who might want to influence your perspective. Yes, seek subscribers but stay independent! YOUR thinking is what your readers appreciate!
Oh, have no fear of that, my written work will always be my own thoughts, I’m talking about getting an understanding on visual content, in terms of focus. It’s always useful to have.
I think commenting is the best draw. What you already have, the prices, seem good. I just can’t afford anything. but if I can someday, I will! Thank you for your hard work.
Thank you for your comment Kate. I really appreciate your input. The last thing I would ever want to do is take ANY money from people who are struggling. It’s the antithesis of why I’m here for. Politics has a terrible reputation for fleecing supporters regardless of their means. That’s WRONG in so many ways.
