We must continue to protest against the vile regime. Renee Good was murdered in cold blood . We are living

in a time of monsters . We are not them. ✌️💪

I agree, and PLEASE our government officials need to STOP sitting on your hands (so to speak) and actually do their jobs to stop this insanity. If they don’t, I fear a huge revolt is coming. More lives lost, country even more divided, and potentially the country revolting. 🤢

Those in Congress and Senate have blood on their hands too for allowing this crap to go on for so long. For allowing nothing to be done to stop the illegal act of a demented, deranged, pervert, criminal in office …destroying our country and freedoms.

ICE will not stop killing & being an even bigger threat to us all.

PLEASE start doing an impeachment of ALL those involved who are working to destroy our nation. OR… charge them with TREASON!

Martin, there is a psychological fact that the good in us misunderstands. We have a criminal with all the power in the world who has dementia and actively dying. He doesn't care what happens to anyone but himself as he is capable of nothing else.

Then we have the people, also pathological, taking care of him, and evidently themselves. These are also criminals and murderers who use the presidential powers to meet their personal agendas through manipulation of presidential power.

These facts alone warrant the 25th amendment.

Unfortunately we have a congress that is on the take on both sides and as long as there is a cash flow, they will continue to do nothing.

This is a situation that MUST be solved by the people, and quickly.

I absolutely agree Michael. This particular piece was about producing a clear fact based narrative for the record. I am mindful that protests may stem from events and that will likely take us down another spell of dangerous political violence.

It seems to me that legislators are asleep at the wheel and I fear the consequences are growing by the day. - Martin

Very well said, thank you.

Well said. Thank you for so clearly explaining the situation we face.

A very interesting thing about this case, is the tug of war going on with the narrative.

The narrative seems to be descending into was she was she not part of a left wing organisation threatening the safety of ICE officers.

This is just an attempt to muddy the waters and shift the focus from the central point of whether the officer that murdered her was justified in doing so and the clear answer is clearly NO.

The rest is irrelevant because she had the right to protest under the 1st amendment of the Constitution. The attempt here is to brand someone with no criminal record or even interactions with the police, as a radical left lesbian who sent her child to be indoctrinated at a social justice focused charter school.

It’s a lazy disingenuous argument that has no relevance to the facts in relation to her being murdered.

My essay is accurate regardless of whether or not she was an activist - Martin

Trump is desperate to invoke the Insurrection Act so that he can use the US military against citizens. He knows that there is no power and no appetite to stop him among those who ought to stop him. We can only hope that people who are rightfully outraged by what's happened in Minneapolis will be able to see what Trump and his lackeys are itching to do.

We are living in extremely dangerous times. Our democracy is faltering at the hands of a convicted felon and his minions who spread hate , racism and LIES. Thank you for this very powerful and important message to Americans… this country needs to wake up , impeach this administration and WE must follow international and US laws … our country is founded on liberty and equal justice for ALL .

First there was Citizens United and the citizens’ representatives in Congress not only did not mobilize to amend the Constitution, they quietly celebrated the windfall of legalized bribery. Then SCOTUS followed up with a second extra constitutional ruling that granted the president immunity. Again, instead of immediately working to amend the Constitution, Congress shrugged, knowing full well who was waiting in the wings with an insatiable appetite for totalitarianism.

Donald Trump, Steven Miller and Russel Vought could not care less about millions-strong protests in the streets or popularity polls. Human suffering by whatever means and to whatever degree is their drug of choice.

The citizens of the United States have lost every means of legal recourse. Get used to the new normal: totalitarian savagery, economic collapse, and blood in the streets.

Well said, Jessica, I appreciate your determination to hang on to hope for justice. For my grandchildren’s sake I hope justice comes soon. At my age I don’t believe I will live long enough to see it.

Thank you for this piece Martin, and for honoring Renee Good. Many hearts across America are broken by this horrible event.

Since you published this piece, the Minneapolis Star Tribune has idenitfied the officer who shot Renee as Jonathan Ross. They said he is a veteran and has been with ICE for 16 years. Last summer, he was run over by a fleeing vehicle. He was run over because he did the exact same thing one of those officers in Renee's video did. He reached inside a car, the driver took off and he was eventually knocked loose. Which makes his action of standing in front of the car even more stupid. He obviously wasn't in fear for his life if he knew what getting run over feels like, and chose the stand in front of the car anyway. So, I'm questioning, seriously, that officers fitness for duty.

I also saw another video from Renee's killing. A neighbor identified themselves as a doctor and wanted to render aid to Renee, but was denied by ICE agents. That time while they were waiting for EMTs to get there she could have been getting CPR, but ICE held the doctor back. They were not interested in saving her. NONE of the officers tried to render aid after the shootinh. They are truly evil, by any definition.

It’s a fast moving situation. More information is coming to light by the hour. It seems Renee has left behind THREE children.

There are very dangerous times and I note that in Portland, two further people were shot by ICE. Once you establish a police state this is sadly what happenens. Especially if those at the top are throwing around the term absolute immunity and blocking state law enforcement to investigations into the incident.

Isn't it interesting that this has happened so close together and in two majority liberal cities?

Since the corrupt FBI won’t allow the normal protocol of local investigators to be involved, there won’t be a prosecution.

Kristy N. is a horrible person. Her bar to exist in her nasty form is as low as low can get, even lower than lowest. The nastiest piece of human garbage exceeds any standards based on her morals. And, don’t forget, she was approved by a Republican Congress.

Must be talking about Biden because he's the only one that had dementia and was a horrible president when he ran the country

Illegal is illegal doesn't matter who they are I don't care they all go home again like I said over 80 million people that are well updating million people voted for this you can either wait on the sidelines or you can keep doing what you're doing and then pretty soon the 80 million will be on the streets and you won't like that outcome

Can I respectfully suggest you go back to school and get an education? Is this English you’re attempting to write here? If so, there is no hope for education in America.

Protests are dangerous and being in one is very risky.

I do believe in freedom of speech, yet being in a protest may get us hurt.

Petitions are safer to do.

Truth Matters's avatar

I agree re protests, they are more performative than politically effective. However, when people are angry I understand they might want to vent with like minded people and in that sense it does have value.

Jack Cain's avatar

Martin, I believe there is a second important function. The optics of thousands or millions of people protesting impacts politicians' sense of political survival.

The playbook of "who ya gonna believe?" doesn't work the same in the age of ubiquitous video.

This will change as AI makes this less reliable, but multiple videos from multiple angles are still hard to contradict.

Truth Matters's avatar

I’m buying what you’re selling my friend. I am not against physical protests. My feeling though is that aside from the optics, they only ever really move the needle when they are sustained, as in Iran at the moment.

Having said that we have seen it before and the Arab Spring largely failed too. America does not understand threats on its own soil, it is rarely subjected to it and when it is, it goes to fight a war in a far off land.

In Europe we have lived experience. If this threat was in France, I’m convinced Trump and all his acolytes would be locked up, as a result of sheer public pressure. They would have ground the economy to a screeching halt.

The mentality is very different. Sadly inconvenience is a barrier to participation. You can’t win a war on magic bullet one day protests. It simply doesn’t work.

Jack Cain's avatar

Truth. There are calls for a national boycott, but too many people are a paycheck away from disaster and don’t want to threaten their jobs. They don’t see far enough down the trail.
