The key to defeating Trump? Mass non-cooperation | Mark Engler and Paul Engler
“The extraordinary level of grassroots solidarity and creative resistance in anti-ICE protests in Minnesota has given people a new appreciation for the power that mass non-cooperation can have in resisting the Trump administration’s drive toward authoritarianism. And it has created an awareness of why such action is clearly needed.”
Successful Social Movements
In this transcript Professor Chenoweth discusses the four elements necessary for a successful social movement. Below are excerpts from the transcript.
“The third thing that successful movements do is they innovate new tactics. This is very important because movements that tend to over-rely on a single technique like protests, like demonstrating every Friday, something that becomes very routinized, end up succumbing much more quickly first of all to protester fatigue, but the second thing is they often subject their participants to a higher risk of repression or communal violence from opponents. So movements that are capable of having the capacity to shift to methods of dispersion, like stay-at-homes or strikes or forms of economic noncooperation, tend to be much more effective because they have the capability of maneuver when the state begins to ramp up violence against them.”
The following takes the mass non-cooperation proposal a step further and would avoid the bloodshed we’ve already seen, and will see in the future with street demonstrations
The Peaceful Solution-Part 1
How much do you want to stop His Royal Heinous and the fascist takeover of the country?
Enough that you’re willing to make a small sacrifice? Like altering your spending habits for a month or two or three? That could be all it would take to get the attention of the oligarchs (formerly known as The Robber Barons in the first Gilded Age, also The Fat Cats, The Greedy Bastards).
A brief demonstration of We, the People’s, power of the purse could persuade them to quit supporting HRH and the politicians who enable him.
We quit spending, except on essentials, businesses lose money, stock market goes down, Greedy Bastards pay attention to our demands.
Greedy Bastards own most of the politicians of both major parties. GBs start losing money, tell politicians to change course and do what We, the People want.
We are running out of peaceful options. The legislature and Supreme Court are controlled by HRH. He controls the executive branch, including the Military, Justice Department, FBI, ICE, the IRS. He controls all levers of power.
We, the people, still have the power of the purse. No one can control our spending, or lack of spending. When all else fails we can go on a spending strike until the business community stops supporting HRH and the politicians who enable him.
Economic warfare is the only thing the oligarchs, the business community will understand and act on. Call it a Surreptitious General Strike (Quiet Quitting). Go to work, do as little as possible. Stop spending money except on essentials. Quit feeding the corporate beast that supports the HRH.
Stop participating. Nearly 70% of the U.S. economy is driven by consumer spending. All of us. Hobble the economy and the stock market. Mahatma Gandhi drove the British from India by peaceful civil disobedience and economic disruption. We can stop the fascist takeover in the same way.
We can keep rehashing past and present atrocities until our access to the internet is taken away by the regime, or we can DO something!
As complementary reading re: "The Epstein Class", this well-researched piece by the Australian sociologist Melinda Cooper, entitled "Epstein Family Values", absolutely hits the right notes, tying the "new patriarchy", SV techno-feudalism, and the rank unaccountability of the uber-wealthy into a collective description of abysmal moral failure, and the class of victims created.
A massive detention apparatus is being assembled in front of our eyes. Not for those who abused women and children, of course, but, for anyone who dares speak out.
The amount of money being diverted from FEMA and other vital programs to ICE and CBP for arrests, deportation and detention is unethical, illegal, and dangerous. Even citizens and legal immigrants are being captured and held in abhorrent conditions. If Congress is unable/unwilling to stop this, a general nationwide strike is the only way the people can demand change. We can live on rice and beans for a long time. We’ve already increased our monthly donations to our local food bank and the ACLU.
We don’t need violence, just the willingness to tighten our belts and say NO!
I have boycotted Amazon since Nov 5 2024. I quit Social media in 2019 after getting covid and it unleashed suspicions of what was happening . But yes , dont but anything that's not needed or with any taxes attached to it. I only left my house a few times last year , because the world has gone crazy .we have chickens and a garden.. our needs are minimal...we're elderly and our budget is very small. We have coffee table hobbies and only watch black and white shows with morals . Go to bed with the sun and wake up to the sun . Turned off our gas heater in "92" and dont want toxic gases around us .A extra layer of clothes or two does the trick (and a fireplace) I've only spent $45.00 on gasoline since Feb last year ...... minimalism is for now . We have 3 generations living in our home and teaching them about the reality of want not ..spend not . Recycle , reuse and learning to live in harmony with respect and dedication is the first most.
Your articles are full of good and reliable information. You are creating a breathfast, lunch and dinner conversations with and about the current and past times of the history of the life that we all are living.
Thank you and keep doing your job that we are reading and thinking to survive this miss.
Thank you for this important article and all your hard work. I came across these two articles and I am desperately trying to share them in the hopes that they receive more media coverage. I have a sinking feeling that this is connected to Epstein and the global child abuse network.
😮 wow . I read both articles . Thanks for sharing this. I was unaware of the systemic sexual abuse in the Hebrew community. It seems to be based in ritualistic beliefs that are very primitive. Drinking a human - snake blood cocktail followed by sexual assault is pretty barbaric …. As compared to the Catholic priests who assaulted little alter boys for pleasure …. This abuse of women described is founded in cult like worship. Both are horrific and Israel needs to investigate these crimes. Maybe this is the foundation of the “Epstein syndrome” ….learned from Maxwell … we should not ignore the parallels .
Yes your so right .. people that are from the 50-70 age range know . University systems were supposed to have been for the people to become educated at a higher cost than they'd ever get back . The university's have funded this hypocrisy. Our govt system has created a bunch of self loathing ,spoiled little rich kids in one class and a separate lower class that struggles. Those of us graduating @the Viet Nam (Regeans heroine deal) saw thru this and either learned from hard experience or rode daddy's coat tail . Then with the college system (paid education) many just took our careers to doing what we did best or being in the right place at the right time . Experience was thru learned behavior . Success wasn't like today ..keeping up with the Jonses. But in the late 60s and early 70s , the education took away critical thinking . N I more aurora shop , wood shop, metal shop , home economics, being sewing , cooking , nursing and real life
teachings to be sel sufficient . 80s brought cheerleading ,sports, dirty dancing and they handed out condoms for sexual education ...we now are experiencing..the problems of that again self absorbed narcissistic behavior and it has been glorified by the unacceptable becoming acceptable . All of this has masked over the true intention of a society where only the strong at self survival have enough sense to see it . We are at a crossroad in humanity. The rich (and I know many) send their daughters off to expensive Unuversitys not for educations (most don't even like their studies ) but to interact with and marry a guy who's family has money .Spend thousands on a fancy wedding that never lasts...all a big front and playing Into the systems big plan. These people live in stress loveless relationships always trying to keep up with neighbors in big glass houses. Yet when the shit hits the fan they'll have no idea how to go in their basements survive . Common sense is absolite at this point ..the lost education of humanity's survival
If you yourself aren't self sufficient and taught your children critical thinking skills , your offspring will struggle ...no matter how rich you are . If you haven't prepared them for this reality .. your part of the problem . Life survival skills are more important than any College class you can take ....or pay for. Cooking, caning , harvesting garden, knowledge of water treatment, holistic medical treatment with herbs , animal care with herbs, trauma health experience studies, and building experience make you smarter than the most educated when it comes to being fittest to survival
“There is so much being hidden from view now in this upside-down world, but the secret is to marshal your thoughts around the facts to fill in the blank spaces.”
One of my concerns is that the Trump admin will do their damndest to adulterate those ‘FACTS’ … they’ve already begun by firing govt fact-gatherers.
— Even in his first term he-they coined the term ‘alternate facts’ … and their cult following desperately want those to be reality because it validates their hatreds.
I also fear that ‘he who told the First Lie’ is still calling the shots.
This is in connection with the idea of us putting a halt on the spending except for the essential items. While it sounds like a reasonable idea, it may not be that effective (or if it is, then it could be but in the long term) if we think of dining out in local eateries and our vehicle fuel consumption. How far would it be necessary to drive to those businesses? Even if we do so, the difference in costs ($) would end up being compensated by the fuel spent in driving for x, y, z miles. And the fuel companies (gas stations) are definitely backed by corporate power. I'm not sure if I got my message across. ✌️

Would have read this, but it requires one to create an account.
Some newsletters are worthy of the bother, and Equator is in that rare category.

Boycott the big boys. Shop or eat or …. local. We can make a dent in the billionaires and have a major long term impact.

Looking forward to this, Martin.

Yes, and I am sorry now that I didn't pay more attention to survival skills while I still had parents to model them for me.
Totally agree Dotty . I watch today’s generation and wonder how would they have survived the Great Depression .
They wouldn't have
