This isn’t the failure of the democracy experiment. It’s the failure of the human experiment.

You’re not wrong Christy.

Thank you for telling it like it is and for analyzing in a very readable way.

You are most welcome Deborah. For all the discomfort truth can deliver. Without it, we are taking a knife to a gunfight.

Thank you for your tireless work. This is an excellent article, as usual.

Cheers Chris, there are no awards for quitting. I’m actually getting into my stride now.

I was concerned about the future of this country for months before the election; MAGA is an illusion because America was never great to begin with. Now my worst nightmares have come true…Trump has Made America Grandiose Again, and he shows no sign of stopping. I’ll have to reread this series from Part One!

Very distressing but good to get it out where Americans can see what goldfish bowl they are drowning in.

Thank you for this analysis of the bleak present and future of the non-millionaires in the US, if this drive to transfer most wealth in the US to the top 2% keeps going. Your information about private equity buying up trailer parks is striking. Soon no one will be able to afford the $300k homes, let alone the $800k ones on up. Even mobile homes are $100k on up. Sci fi has humans living in containers as housing, while the wealthy luxuriate on private islands. This does not seem that far fetched. The drive towards hideous inequity must stop. It has to stop.

This is the best analysis I’ve read outlining our situation and paints a frightening picture of the dilemma we presently find ourselves in and the horror of what is to come. Your words eloquently describe how the people in the US have slavishly hustled with very little gain over the years to the point where quality of life is compromised . Extreme greed and lack of morality in the 1% has ruined the country.

Excellent analysis and insight. We should inform others by sharing your newsletters. I will.

Any chance you are interested in doing a deeper dive on Esther? I have it downloaded but it will take me a while to get through it. Having a framework from you would help my processing. Thanks so much for considering.

Excellent article and so accurate! Professor Reich did a video on you tube explaining some of what you're saying here.

ALOHA.... “Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought. Instead of fear, let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place. A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power.”

And this week 47 has finally killed off the Environmental Protection Agency’s research department. It will no longer generate data based on facts. It will test pollution levels no more. Any data quoted by the EPA from now on will either be industry-biased or make-believe. Goodbye, fact-based, peer-reviewed reports.

Goodbye, any semblance of protecting public or environmental health and safety.

Farewell, reliable and valid conclusions.

Hello, rampant extraction industry. Hello, increasing and unregulated pollution.

Hello, increasing sickness and death. Heritage Foundation and 47 are realizing their dreams of unlimited power.

I think you are too nice. Everyone is. He's treated like a human being. We stay rational. But something seems nuts to me. We should be ferocious.

Forget the Democrats. This is deeper. Stop wasting energy on complaining about their stupidity. There isn’t any there there. Who are “the Democrats?” That’s how I vote, but I don’t belong to anything. If we get another Roosevelt, we’ll have a visionary party. The time is now, too, not the midterms. Stop beating a dead horse. Marianne Williamson was the only visionary running for chair of the DNC, and she did get one vote.

So now what? What to do? Pundits give advice to people who are looking for leadership. But there are no preconceived boxes for jumping into, to do this or that. Who the hell knows what to do, which is the agitation from which everyone, if they stay informed, can jump into whatever shows up, like writing comments on Substacks, whatever, but that rage is our fuel for an unknown vehicle to get us on a nonexistent road where our great ingenuity will get us to the best places there can be.

So, what do we, as once proud Americans,

do to protect the future for our children?
