I think the best book about WWII was written by Ernie Pyle, the first embedded correspondent as far as I know. The book is "Brave Men" and this is how he describes landing at Normandy. (Walking around) I saw what seemed to be two pieces of driftwood sticking out of the sand. But they weren't driftwood. They were a soldier's two feet. He was completely covered except for his feet; the toes of hi GI shoes pointed toward the land he had come so far to seen and which he saw so briefly."
I've read this passage a hundred times, and I have tears in my eyes each time.
Monday June 7th- called Rep Kiley D3-CA : Having Hegseth represent our nation at the 72nd D-DAY Commemorative in Normandy was a unequivocal sacrilege. Hegseth hides behind being a Republican - in truth he's a Nazi in a suitagenda.
420,000 Americans died in WW2 fighting and defeating Fascists.
And a Fascist Secretary of Defense was sent to represent The USA this year. Hegseth is openly not for Democracy in any shape or form. His actions & words prove that.
It' was a very shameful occurrence for Americans & our Allies to see & hear Hegseth denigrate Europe with his fascism agenga.
Just plain stupid when he thinks what he is saying is important. Just oblivious when he ignores who his audience is. Disrespectful and he doesn't know it, doesn't care.
