Just like the 1850s there needs to be a new party to lead the way! Then it was the democrats! But now USA needs a whole new party!

It has to be mobilisation. I am no activist, but I keep hearing “the answers are not going to come out of DC”. So I just signed up to learn more about (pro Democracy group) Indivisible.org’s nationwide street event, “HANDS OFF” (our Democracy, our Social Security etc etc) on April 5th.

The 2025 Project is not unique to America. We saw Project 2025 roll out back in 1996 by the conservatives lead by John Howard. Many of the people associated with the Australian version are involved with the US project 2025. The same people were involved with Brexit in the UK. Murdoch has always been in the thick of it.

Wow! Ok. Yeah, global world. And we all have had to do the Austerity Jig ;p - since neoliberalism hit ALL countries with just a little socialism in them, and had us lower the taxes too to be relevant. ;p We in Sweden got a a major crisis, had to cut down on schools! (quite many burned then, i remember... Some small angry guys only way to protest over losing the only person that actually GOT them in the personell, and the school nurse thing hasnt been quite reinstated yet. :p .).. we got homeless persons, long term unemployment, peope breaking bad (exactly what we had been working upstream to prevent before!), the beginning of the drug epidemic, biker gangs, Russian mafia ... You name it. ;p

And in all of that we had no attention to Russia, where people were STARVING when the neoliberal shock therapy OF COURSE failed ;p and nobody helped them with emergency aid , because It Was Their Falult.

I tell you, if the US (who had ALLl the money then) had remembered the lessons from the Marshall help to Germany, the best invention ever - Ukraine would never have happened now. But the Russians were left in the shit to rot, and then people ALWAYS have to make a national ladder of themselves to climb out - and when they do, they will look for SOMEBODY to hit, because of the anger and disappoinrment left in them. They wont trust one living soul, nothing except power, and be very much like Trump and Musk. ;p or the nearest "bad neighborhood" gangster.

Austerity damages. All of it.

Its IMPOSSIBLE to keep a society together if your dont have a public sector to be invested in, work on improving together, and be proud of together! Thats what its for -common pride, besides the individual one - both are needed. And some work best for the common good and others for their own, and thats totally ok - as long as we all RESPEC each others.

And... I have yet to hear from a national economist that a public sector is too large in ABSOLUTE terms, after so many years of austerity. Its all just about the beauty contest for international capital - keeping the taxes down.(and work hours still up) RELATIVE TO OTHERS.

So if we just start global unions, now when the world growht is slowing as the world is almost done lifting people from poverty - well be fine with a non-minimal public sector too. As long as it delivers value!

And really, fierce competition is not the only way to do that. We Swedes *always* improve stuff if we can and are allowed to. Just like the japanese and everybody who DONT have a total asshole for employer. Which better work conditions throufh laws and unions tends to prevent.

Mostly correct except for this "They can no longer hold Town Halls because those that elected them are finding out, this is NOT what they voted for." This is exactly what they voted for and they knew it. That fact is as much or more troubling than the dictator himself.

Martin Björnsson's avatar

Well.. most of them did NOT see it biting themselves.

Peter Floyd's avatar

Perhaps, yet if someone proves that they lie, if they will go to any lengths such as criminal activity (and found guilty), promotes insurrection, ... What fool would vote expecting anything different? There's an old saying "you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig".

Martin Björnsson's avatar

Ooo...man ;) im sorry to have to tell you... :) But the view from Sweden is that we are basically the same :o - pragmatic, generalist, no-bullshit, massively goal-oriented compared to Old Europe - with the major difference that you had LOADS of just that level of uneducated people.

And your politics could be summarized in the Christian/market evangelic "dont think, you dont have to understand the big picture, just run and have faith in God/the Invisible hand of the market taking care of the rest." :/

And i think that road, encapsulated in nozicks/rands/Reagans/thatchers simple viral neoliberal lies, is at its end now - and it ends here, the simple lies come back again, and corporate bullshit is trying to use poorly educated poor bastards to take over everything.

We have to ger back to Rawls justice concept again, and always always check how the worst off fare. Because they will NEVER protest in the RIGHT way, fighting with fancy words and laws and debate and such. They will instead choose action and vote for the biggest bully they can find, to go to washington and remind rhe nerds there that they are not invincible, even now. Revenge on the Nerds. :p

Thank you Martin. Just an aside for your information, I am a Canadian. I think Canada has and does wrestle with Capitalism (lets say economic progress) and a social safety net (support). I completely agree with your comment that people essentially aren't thinking when they voted for someone like Trump for example. It's definitely a huge problem.

Oh! ... My biggest apologies! But then you got to know something about your big neighbor.

Be angry, but never lose your cool! And always put out a hand towards the RIGHT US Americans. :D

So. Now we know what it's like to live in a failed state. What do we do? How about Progressive DEM Elected Officials LEAD, get together w/one another and using all the publicity and power at their disposal, QUICKLY organize an INCLUSIVE GENERAL STRIKE?! Nothing less will work. Per above, how to get a message through... as I realized not terribly long ago, we have no organization because we have no leadership. So it's a hell of a thing to try to organize to get some leadership. Actually, The Congressional Progressive Caucus needs to act as one, a unit- They Are The Leadership We Need to Spark Action! The question: HOW DO WE GET THEM TO TAKE THIS HUGE VITAL STEP?...

Martin Björnsson's avatar

And, BINGO :D , found these two today - for keeping updated, focused, educated and inspired/challenged to action in a lovely pragmatic, no-bullshit .

Hah! I just KNEW they were out there! This was EXACTLY what we build the internet for. :D

Spread them, please!

We have no other choice. It must be mobilization. We must mobilize and resist. I don’t know how but I know we must. I’m looking for ways that I can contribute.
