It is hard for me to read this entire article and not come to the conclusion that Netanyahu sacrificed his own people for his own good. He escaped going to trial and the attack gave him reason to annihilate the Palestinians and Gaza. I find that 100% guilty.U

From the article:

”The key takeaway from this heartbreaking article is that the female spotters had, for months, been watching Hamas training at the border …They did their job, the job the IDF trained them to do. They observed and reported their observations to their commanders.

The reporting notes: “They were told by officers of every rank that their reports were meaningless. Some told the spotters that they didn’t understand what they were seeing – even when what they saw was very high-ranking Hamas officials briefing armed men meters from the fence. “.

— the arrogance & stupidity of men holds no bounds.

Immediately following the Hamas attack on Israel, I thought of Hamas as Netanyahu‘s Frankenstein monster that came back and attacked him. Netanyahu essentially created Hamas. However, with recent evidence that the Saudi government contacted Netanyahu days before the attack and warned them about an impending major Hamas operation and Netanyahu, choosing to do nothing tells me that this whole genocidal project in Gaza was planned all along.

We will likely never know Robyn, but it’s my assessment that your conclusion is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility. - Martin

Illegal migrants committing genocide on stolen ethnically cleansed Palestinian soil are not “innocent civilians.”

As ever, thanks Martin for some awesome journalism. Lots here to process. Mainstream western media won't go anywhere near this story of course, but I have a feeling future historians will be much more rigorous in their assessment of Netanyahu's vile far right Israeli state and it's actions.

Well done , nothing to contribute to the facts and history . It does seem quite astounding to me that the Hannibal directive is utilized with such abandon . No hesitation . Kill your own to prevent hostages . …. Rather savage isn’t it ? It’s not harakari is it ? Not the honorable defeat ….

I’m afraid the years of conflict from neighbor terror groups and the reciprocal aggressive violence used by Israel IDF against their neighbors has had a profound effect on the moral core of the Israeli society. It seems that there is no limits to the torture , rape , organ harvesting , starvation , and inhumane treatment that has become normalized and acceptable in the culture . No rules . Hannibal directive is a symbol of a soulless nation .

I’m afraid we will have to agree to disagree. They are a prescribed terrorist organisation. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for the leadership

The entire organization is designated as a terrorist group by the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand to name but a few.

If you see fit to defend the indefensible that’s your prerogative, but they are NOT freedom fighters, in 2006 they won a plurality of the vote then declared there would be no further elections, I would have thought that might tell you everything you need to know.

I am not nor would I ever attempt to defend what they did and respectfully nor should you, it demonstrates breathtaking naivety.

The funding of Hamas from the idf is stunning news I’ve not heard of. Wow. Has Hamas always been a terrorist group? I know the original members were survivors of family members murdered by Isr. To fight the occupation has now morphed into terrorism that is as brutal as from their oppressor. 10/7 was an ugly ugly assault on human life; but we know neither side will stop this senseless killing. Loving forward to 2nd part. Thx

To be clear, while I will not and never have supported Hamas and there can be no justification for what they did. I have to ask myself at what point would I fight back, but I would NOT target civilians that’s for sure.

Kathy's avatar

However the idf has always targeted civilians —daily, and now this genocide has unleashed a killing spree that includes journalists. Hamas only intensified the historical suffering of Palestinians to a whole new level. What a waste of human life

Hamas's military wing (the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades) was proscribed in March 2001. The ban was extended to cover Hamas in its entirety.

No clear path to fully understand or comprehend living in this madness from the comfort of my home. Your piece is an important part of attempting to see the bigger picture of an occupied ppl. I’m listening
