Today will see the start of a battle to expose the truth behind the sexual abuse of children by the wealthy and the powerful, and the Trump distraction campaign will hit the ground running.
As a survivor of CSA (and brother of another CSA survivor & son of a domestic violence survivor), your clear & unflinching call for accountability in support of these girls (now women) is both appreciated and crucial: there must be *no further* systemic protection of abusers.
Keep doing your good work, and thank you again π
Thank you Martin. You & your family are also in my thoughts π
Letβs both keep the focus on todayβs brave women and their co-survivors & victims β Iβve had the opportunity to see a bit of justice, to heal, and to crap on his gravesite (didnβt help much then, but makes me laugh now), while these women have been denied most of this.
I hold some cautious optimism that today will mark a turning point more broadly, so all such victims & survivors will be listened to, and can thereby see justice & truly heal.
Of course trump called it a βDemocratic hoaxβ right after the presser conference.
I survived childhood sexual abuse by my own father. I know what it is like to stand up and speak truth to power. My father was to blame for me losing childhood friends and taking my family away from me as an adult because it was my voice against his. I was deemed βcrazyβ by my own mother. Iβm now 57 years old and the wounds are still there. This is not something you get over. Ever. No amount of therapy can heal you. However, being believed and seeing justice done to those who have hurt you would be huge. I am so proud of these women who spoke publicly today. I donβt know if theyβll ever receive the justice they deserve, but at least some lawmakers are listening.
And the GOP members who donβt are complicit in the cover up.
I hope you are able to find some peace; I know mine has been hard fought for, and only partial, and I wouldnβt wish it on my worst enemies.
Be kind to yourself as this situation evolves further, please: there will undoubtedly be additional horrors of betrayal & diminishment to come before any sense of justice π
Janine, I'm the protective parent of a victim here, and thank you for sharing. I am so, so sorry your mom didn't protect you. I can't imagine what you've been through. There is NO excuse, other than her own pathetic weakness. I am just so sorry.
What gets me is that it's bad enough for grown women...but the Family Courts are even worse. They offer NO protection under 'the best interest of the child' narrative, and the battle will never be won if we can't change the justice system at the top.
We can't stop fighting. These men have been getting away with this for too long, and they teach by example that there's no repercussions. I cringe thinking about how they want to take away no fault divorce, and part of me feels like it's to preserve access to girls/children as property. I truly think that these men see it as just that--bodies meant for their own taking, regardless of the human impact. They are animals. And it's time for it to stop. We have to hold these men up as examples, along with their punishment.
Thank you Martin. And to our community of readers, their families who have experienced sexual abuse and will be retraumatized I send my support for peace and continued strength. πβοΈ

Thank you. Iβm being gentle with myself today. Please be the same with yourself.
Thank you as well, Janine.
The days to come will surely be a test of my recent improvements in focusing rage into action instead of inward.

I hope for justice and fear the cover-up and distractions will win. Nothing seems to be able to stop Trumpβs evil.
