I hear that the US is not ready for a female president but Hillary actually won by 3 million votes more than the orange felon which gives me hope. Now,if we could only get rid of the undemocratic electoral college.....
I just read that the electoral college was established so the South could keep counting Negoes (who couldn’t vote) as part of their census that then determined the number of Congressional seats.
Like a phoenix you rose up from the ashes of COVID …. Bravo to you and onward to bigger battles 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. I am less enthusiastic about the future of this country than you because certain structural changes are not coming soon enough. 1) End Citizens United - wishfully on a federal level but at minimum at a state by state consensus. 2)Term limits and age retirement for all US elected representatives and senators . These people are so enamored with power and personal wealth and privilege…. Our forefathers never envisioned the corruption and blind loyalty that wealth brings to politics . AIPAC is far too influential, as is the billionaire corporate elites. 3) term limits for SCOTUS …. And impeachment for those that lie to the congress in order to gain their seats on the bench . AGE out retirements . 4) all voting districts are determined by independent nonpartisan committees that regulate the grid … no wiggly squiggly lines permitted . 5 ) end the electoral college…. Popular vote rules. Prevents minority policy from becoming more powerful than majority will of the people . Presidents who do not have a majority support are not representative of “ we the people “ and should not have the power to dictate policy decisions as a minority president.
Off to check the Turkey 🦃. Happy Thanksgiving to you .
Thank you so much for your kind words Bonnie. More importantly, thank you for your valuable contribution to the conversation. You and I are on the same page without question. - Martin
Thank you for your service and sharing your story.
Today is NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING
November 27, 2025
National Day of Mourning is a reminder that the true story of the Native Americans and the Pilgrims gathering peacefully was nothing more than a very tall tale. In truth the European settlers stole their land and massacred millions of Natives. Until they have their own days of mourning, this day of mourning should be a time to remember not only the American Genocide of Natives but also the enslavement of black Africans, the forced internment of Japanese Americans, the yet to be properly acknowledged oppressed victims of racial hate by European settlers, their descendants and the tRump administration.
Thanks for the great read, Martin. I hope that many women will see what Republicans have done to them and think of supporting a female candidate. I would absolutely support AOC, but for some reason people seem to have gone off her. In any case, as long as we get a good Progressive candidate with no ties to PACs, I will be happy.
Aloha. From the COCONUT WIRELESS.. ................................... HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you all.. Be safe out there... Take care to you and yours..................... ALOHA...
I appreciate you sharing that, Martin. The image of those cardboard boxes stays with me, cutting right through the noise of the season.
You're spot on about the exhaustion. The whole machine is built to wear us down until the hill looks too steep — that is how they get us to settle for the ‘safe’ option. They rely on us feeling too weak to push for what is actually needed. That is why your point on the funding matters so much. When the support comes from us — from the ground up — the centre of gravity shifts. It cuts the strings. That's not just a political strategy; it's an act of reclamation. It proves we don't have to settle for the performance.
IDGAF who wins as long as they are intelligent, care about people other than the sand mega billionaires, and uphold the principles of democracy. If Newsom has the best chance, so be it.
I focus on the Substack media in which each reporter and commentator speaks mainly for themselves. I can truly consider right from wrong. I can consider the importance of the article locally, state wide, nationally or worldwide wide.
Your Thanksgiving day post struck a nerve, three pluses and a bomb. I’m thankful that you and family survived difficult financial and housing trials during Covid-19 and that world no longer counts deaths per day. I have appreciated your perspective on world and US events. I am alarmed by your denunciation of Gavin Newsom on grounds you don’t trust him. I have watched his career since he was young man thirty years ago. I have spoken directly with him on issues of older adult welfare. My experience is he does his homework before speaking. Did you?
If Newsom were to be elected president three years from now, he would be the most qualified incoming president in 75 years. As governor of California he has been responsible for economy larger than UK, for balancing domestic and international relations and trade, and meeting needs of the poor and billionaires. Yes, he had an affair and questionable first marriage. Yes, he mimics the current president to call attention to those much larger flaws. I have not decided on my choice for prez three years from now, but I would trust Newsom to preserve democracy.
Thank you for your contribution to the conversation Carol. To be honest, while him having an affair with the wife of his campaign manager, goes to his character, it’s not a showstopper. That’s not the issue for me, it’s AIPAC money and I believe he’s a prime target for corporate money, and that is my BIG ISSUE. He would perpetuate corporate dominance of politics.

The president of the US is the only elected official where the candidate with the least number of votes can win. It's crazy and time to get rid of it.

Pete Buttigieg has said that this can be an opportunity to rebuild our country in a way that works for all & not just white, wealthy men!

Danke für deine Worte, die uns auch in Europa hoffen lassen, dass die Demokratie in den USA überleben wird!
After see in the original ‘Hunger Games’ movie when it came out, I said: this is where we are headed. Sad, but true.
Let's tax the snot out of Corporate Media and take them down a peg.
If you focus on corporate media - yes.
I focus on the Substack media in which each reporter and commentator speaks mainly for themselves. I can truly consider right from wrong. I can consider the importance of the article locally, state wide, nationally or worldwide wide.
