It’s time for the people to demand direct democracy at the federal level from all those we have voted for to represent us.
———
Question:
“What should Democrats be doing now if they got up off their asses?”
Answer:
“Follow the advice of Mike Gravel (1930-2021), the late great Senator from Alaska. He said that if we really want to hold our government accountable, we, the people, must be empowered as lawmakers and truly have a government “by the people.” He has created a website called the National Citizens Initiative for Democracy which overcomes the legislative monopoly of representative government.
If a majority of those who voted in the last presidential election vote for the national citizens initiative for democracy, regardless of the views of those in government, it then becomes the law of the land.
The National (Citizens) Initiative for Democracy (NCID) is a proposal which will permit the People to make or change laws by initiative at all levels of government, including at the federal level.
Concise and publically vetted, over 100 years in the making, it:
- Builds on experience with state-level procedures
- 24 states already allow state-level initiatives
- Is endorsed by some highly respected people
- Becomes a new check in our system of checks and balances.”
Great ideas like: curbing gerrymandering, automatic voter registration, selecting judges by lottery, denying constitutional protections to corporations, reaffirming commitment to human rights, breaking up business monopolies are all great ideas. BUT what they lack is the political WILL to implement them. The only way we’re going be able to make those reforms happen is through people power.
The late great Senator from Alaska, Mike Gravel, certainly believed that it’s possible. He wrote a book about it called “Citizen Power - A Mandate for Change” published by AuthorHouse in 2008 with a forward by Ralph Nader.
Thank you for all your hard work in keeping us informed, Bless you!
