Thank you for this post.

It’s not as if Americans have to compete in the same model that brought us to the brink of societal collapse, where fresh water will soon be in short supply around the world, where agricultural systems are collapsing across the planet, and where climate catastrophe will put the final nail in the coffin of our hubris-filled society with its myths of progress.

Except J. D. Vance's "Pastor" - who is on video saying he wants the Texas Democrat Pastor who won his primary - "to be killed by any means - so that he can be reborn again - correctly (as an Evangelical).

Thar's real good thinkin fer ya.

The last time I checked -- saying something like that - should get you in a boatload of legal trouble.

Oh yeah - I forgot - the Evangelicals are now the third part of the new Trump Nazi Evangelical MAGA Party - all made up of former US Republican Party members and voters.

The wealthy didn't build this tech so the rest of us can take it easy, and they know it. The joke is on them because their dreams will become a nightmare unless they consider the rest of us. They will disappear leaving only a dystopian future at best.

What about rebuilding local decentralized economies outside the winner-take-all competitive model of globalized capitalism

it may come to that. People may need to learn to grow their own food if food sources commercially available become unaffordable. When small farms are eaten up by corporate farms or it becomes prohibitively difficult to continue farming for a living whether due to climate change impacts or governmental economic policies. Community gardens may become a norm. Bartering in exchange for goods or services may make a comeback to simpler times and lifestyles. and communities. When societies collapse, people survive by first being self-sufficient and then rebuilding communities. Does our capitalistic society become more socialistic?

In Canada there are even whispers of developing federal govt grocery stores!

Food banks are at an all-time low on supplies, only a once-weekly pick-up now.

People will begin community gardening, gradually at first & picking up speed as need & experience/knowledge grow.

Truly, ‘it’ IS a monster! The Chinese are light years ahead of much of the world,

esp the current U.S. admin who prefers to gaze back to the 50’s & humor Baby Trumpy with WHATEVER he & 1%-ers want.
