As Senator Chris Coons stated, “Every single one of the government officials on this text chain have now committed a crime — even if accidentally — that would normally involve a jail sentence. We can’t trust anyone in this dangerous administration to keep Americans safe.”

I agree, but accountability seems not to exist in this moment.

And I have to keep reminding myself how big the circle is that helped put #47 in office. Big hands and lots of investments behind the curtain. Heritage, Thiel, Musk . Lots of varied expertise, esp techno. This is not a single minded concocted playbook.

What a farce, the entire American Administration is a disgrace to the American people, even those who thought they were doing the right thing by voting for Trump and his colleagues. Over here in the UK most (especially our security agencies) are open mouthed at how this lurch from one debacle to the next can be allowed to continue! We’re living in trepidation over which America is going to succeed and how far the supposed special relationship will now plunge.

Truth Matters's avatar

I agree. Where the UK is concerned, there is a much bigger picture. Not least of which is MAGA lite Reform and that’s a whole other discussion.

The crass stupidity and total naivety of this administration clearly demonstrated by this outrageous security breach renders it unfit to remain in office. Do not let your concern die!

Truth Matters's avatar

You bet, I’m all over this and digging as I write this.

Because Truth Matters, no matter where it leads…

More dangerous is the naïveté of the people. While the administration absolutely has a ton of fuckwits in it, those of us hoping this is all just a series of goofs, rather than on purpose destruction, dismantling, and selling off to moneyed interests that has been planned in depth for years, are possibly fooling themselves.

Karenza's avatar

Sadly, I fear it is the latter. There is mounting evidence.

And the resistance movement will continue to grow, thank God

Read earlier today all of the higher ups were sent an email last week warning them of Signals vulnerability to hacking. It specifically said Russian hacking. I sound really cynical when I say this but I think two things here. First off none of the maga party cares. Second of all I genuinely don't believe this will go any farther than a few inquiries that are being pushed by Democrats only. I don't believe there will be so much as a reprimand. Possible scenario they may throw Mike Waltz under the bus. Contingent though only on how long Democrats keep the pressure on.

Truth Matters's avatar

It will be interesting to see if the White House can shake this off, but I believe the dangers go far beyond this.

Sherry Gerbi's avatar

I think Waltz has already claimed responsibility. I wonder what form of pressure or enticement was used.

Ann's avatar

As of yesterday he has. But then DT was blaming it on someone on Waltzs team. A staffer. We know though you'll never get the straight story from any of them.

Black Conservative Times's avatar

@Truth Matters Yes This is Part of a broader pattern of reckless and incompetent behavior, and I think what’s most egregious is instead of this administration taking responsibility they turn around and gaslight the American public sick ! That’s why I also write a article on this ordeal

The US and Russia are aligned. Russia doesn’t need to hack into US accounts, they will be invited in.

Ann's avatar

Steve Witkoff was in Russia while on that particular chat. I mean can you get anymore obvious.

Jenny Benjamin's avatar

Trump and Bondi legally did away with our defense program against Russian hacking toward the US. So not just information but I am wondering about dams, electricity grids, water sources, food security and all of our institutions, military, intelligence and so on. Trump has already given Putin the keys to render us defenseless.

Polite Poet's avatar

The entire Trump administration is corrupt and inept. The Republican Party is full of insurrectionist traitors and liars

I loved your comment about Gabbard's FSB training failing her!

You bet! I think that was the whole ideology.

Trump will be remembered the same as Benedict Arnold and Hitler! With great shame!

The Signal Chat Leak Slam

Oh, Hegseth and Vance, what a foolish crew, sharing secrets like kids with a paper or two.

“Freeloading Europe,” they say with a sneer, while leaking their plans without any fear.

“Let’s strike Yemen!” they say, like it’s just a game, but who needs security when you’ve got fame?

Texting in public, no cares to be had, who knew national secrets were so very bad?

Accidentally adding a journalist? Oh dear, what a brilliant move, now the world will hear!

You talk like it’s nothing, like it’s just a joke, but now your chat’s leaked, and your reputation’s broke.

You claim no harm, “It’s just routine, “ but the whole world’s now questioning what you mean.

Oh, Hegseth and Vance, so clever and sly, but you’ve made a mess that’s impossible to deny.

So here’s to the leakers, who’ve set the stage, for a national security drama, all the rage.

May your careers be as bright as your text-filled blunders, and may you learn that loose lips bring thunder!

But we also are omitting the reality of the USA bombing Yemen…. Why?!!! And the collateral damage of once again, killing innocents to get one “bad guy”. Empire Rules…. Everyone’s looking the other way 🙄

Alarming indeed! This is the moment when intense investigation must begin to establish how much information has been exposed using Signal by the current Administration’s deliberate preference to this unsecured system. Efforts to avoid methods that could hold them accountable in the future for their misdeeds is more than alarming.

Betsy-Ann's avatar

By using Signal i don't believe their meetings are recorded for the record.

Ann's avatar

That's the whole point I believe. Their messages on Signal also automatically dissappear after 1 to 4 weeks.
