I thought I’d post a quick note to let you know that the next module, ‘The Screening Room’, is now live on the Truth Matters website. This adds a media element to the project, so you now have ‘The Library’ and ‘The Screening Room’.
This week has been a deliberate process of ‘release and adjust.’ I've made some early adjustments for iPhones to ensure all screen sizes are accommodated. The good news is that there have been no significant issues, and I’ve just had to make some aesthetic changes.
The ‘Screening Room’ is about curated content from organisations like Democracy Now and More Perfect Union; I’ve also included some pieces from a friend of Truth Matters, the wordsmith that is Robert L Arnold. This space isn't just for my work; it's a library of carefully curated content I believe adds value to the political conversation.
It’s a space built to showcase content while respecting EVERY content creator’s intellectual property rights. ALL the content you view is embedded from YouTube media feeds, so when you view content on Truth Matters, the creator gets the views it generates; we don't undercut the revenue streams their hard work generates. I also plan to bring in TikTok content. I want creators to feature their work here because I want people who share our values to benefit from letting others view their content.
One really helpful feature in The Screening Room is the overlay panel, which will let creators communicate with viewers. It will let them promote their work and add donation buttons to boost revenue. Note: these buttons will link out to their own payment providers. I’ve worked endless hours to try and get this right from the outset. And I’m working hard to ensure compliance across the board because I take my responsibilities seriously.
I’m not joking when I say these two initial modules only scratch the surface of what the Truth Matters Project aims to deliver, and I hope you'll support the project's social advocacy element. This is a people-funded project; only the people it serves will hopefully back it.
As you can imagine, I’ve had little sleep over the last month because this has consumed every waking hour. Tomorrow is a really big day: I’m releasing a preview of The People’s Record on its own non-partisan site, Matter of Record. This is the first public data-driven tool that brings together the records of EVERY current member of Congress, both House and Senate. It is the first attempt to bring together a series of data threads, including Congressional records, census data, and FEC records, into what I hope will be an easy-to-use resource to see your representatives’ records for yourself.
I’m pretty sure it will become an important FREE one-stop shop not only for the public, but for journalists and commentators. A place to get the facts and figures needed to assess government performance more accurately. Let me stress: this is just a fraction of the data that will eventually be available; I want you to get a feel for what data is held and how you can use it to hold members to account.
