Refreshing piece, thank you. The global village idiot, indeed! It's been painful here in NY many days. Yet, I do have hope and certainly know this insanity won't be forever and we absolutely are a baby of a country~in too many ways. ✨️

Honestly? I partied like crazy at 66! You're a child! I only started to slow down after my 80th birthday (7/7/25).

I feel a spring in my step already. Thank you

Just stay healthy! That's the trick!! Hope you took care of yourself in the past: that REALLY helps! Exercise and all that stuff.

Enjoy!

I haven't read this entire post {yet}, but wanted to pipe up and let you know I appreciate you. Please don't measure success by your paid subscribers. I for one am spending so much time and dollars trying to support others and also fund groups that are working to save US democracy. I can't afford to do more right now. Thank you again, and I'm looking forward to when I can support you and your works

Love reading your thoughts. Length is a problem for me sometimes. Also like common dreams because I can listen. Just a thought that might help.

The greatest fault of the American Mindset is our blind commitment to exceptionalism. It’s such a shame that brash, tireless and perpetual braggadocio has become the language we use to communicate our history and standing in the world.

A bit of empathy, a bit of humility and a bit of honest reflection would do us all well.

How refreshing would it be to see us (or more specifically, those in power) acknowledge the dueling histories of this infant nation - that we’ve done a great many wonderful things while also doing just as many if not more ruthless, careless, short sighted things along the way. So many things can be true at once. And what person/ country/ group doesn’t have at least two sides to their story? Your great nation and mine share a great deal in common in that regard… both created incredible outcomes for many, while doing so much damage and taking so many missteps along the way.

Not sure if I have a neat bow to put on this point but alas… thanks for helping spark the idea.

A good reputation is stored time.

It contains years of answered calls, corrected mistakes, kept promises, and invoices that did not contain creative surprises. Trust lets a customer decide quickly because someone else has already paid the cost of uncertainty.

Reputation is yesterday working on today’s behalf.

Quite interesting! Do you mean to write much more on Smith? I hope so! I’m just picking up a more or less serious study of one of his contemporaries, Dr. Richard Price.
