Reality check … the Allies are on their own for now . And actually it’s a good lesson - EU dependency on another nation is a bad defense strategy. I support NATO 100% and I also think pressuring the allies to pay their 2% is a good outcome . That said , Allied nations need to have immediate response capability. In whatever form … drone capability, ballistic missiles and yes nuclear weapons. Putin is an unpredictable tyrant … and you should never believe that he is a decent human being. Trump ??? Ditto .
But we are now in a new format of robotic wars . Ukraine has proven to be the story of David and Goliath. So technically - NATO does not need the US boots on the ground …. But they must develop first response capability. This joint effort will make them strategically and tactically effective. So I agree Martin … kick the freeloaders off your soil . Take the over the operations and let Trump sulk . Hopefully the US will have an “awakening” and the next Congress will take action to remove and replace the current grifters . Until then … the Allied Nation’s need to put on their big boy pants and create a Unified Defense Force. We are living in chaos now and a new world order is coming .
Every time somewhat has called Donald Trump‘s bluff he has back down. In fact, he was singing the praises of Pedro Sánchez and saying that Spain had been very generous. He said that he had a very good relationship with the Prime Minister of Spain now. Pedro Sánchez did say that he had had an informal conversation with Trump after the NATO meeting and that they had covered several topics, but he never said that he had extended any acts of generosity to the US president. I know he has been one of the few who have stood up to Trump.
Fear is one of the tactics that Trump has used to manipulate outcomes, markets and everything he has a hand in. The world is lacking leaders with true balls who stand up to him and dare him to act on what he threatens to do, specifically in this instance. They need to change the head of this NATO alliance because the guy is a boot leaker and he himself admitted that he likes Trump. By ingratiating himself to that oath, he has only emboldened him and undermined the true wishes and the actions of the alliance leaders. Canada has also stood up to Trump, and it’s Prime Minister has been a very resourceful and persuasive voice in the midst of this chaos.
Those of us who follow independent media are very much aware of what’s going on in the lives and times of this circus’s actors.
Not just me then. I've been thinking maybe we should just chuck the US out of NATO. That would send Putin a pretty clear message that Europe is quite capable of looking after itself. Putin is getting his arse kicked by Ukraine who he thought he could destroy in a matter of weeks. His military is depleted and the war has arrived in Moscow. He's reportedly already terrified of assassination attempts, presumably by his oligarch friends who are losing a ton of money. If he looks like starting on NATO he'll be the next one to fall out of a hotel window.
