We’re told it’s Palestinian intransigence that has denied them a state. It’s just a fairytale in an ocean of propaganda to justify ethnic cleansing and the commission of war crimes.
Telling Palestinians the best they can hope for is to be a state in the nation of Israel is like telling Poles the best the would get is to be a state in the nation of Nazi Germany. We see how that turned out. Why is the meaning of the narrative magically different now? Palestine needs to be free of The Nazi-esque control of Israel.
Thank you for this article and those to follow. Typically when I try to study about Israel and Palestine, I get lost in the weeds. There is a long history I hadn't understood. This article helps! I'm looking forward to your next post.
You’re welcome Helen, I have always thought I was pretty well informed on the subject as I’ve been engaged for decades, but I’m learning much more the deeper I dig. - Martin
It is truly a shame that two cultures that have given so much to the world throughout the centuries have cost each other so much pain.
It is also true that the Jews have been displaced timing again throughout their history by peoples who consider themselves Christians which, paradoxically, follow the doctrine of a man who was Jewish and who based his teachings on love.
What happened during World War II to the Jews and to other populations that were exterminated by the Nazis is one of the most shameless acts of humankind. Yet, having suffered what they suffered, rather than learning compassion and what hate can do to a human being, rather than learning from the ability to survive that the prisoners of war showed, the juice decided to occupy Palestine and displace the Arabs. So, the Arabs retaliated throughout the years in response to the Jewish invasion of their land. Unfortunately, the big powers at the time contributed to create the situation that has developed into what we have today.
Hatred promotes more hatred. The Jewish community after the holocaust developed a sense of entitlement and, in many cases, the sense of gratitude for those who hid them, helped them and protected them was forgotten. They have contributed in many ways to the progress of our civilization as have the Arabs. But, like in politics, religion’s intolerance and their struggles of the extremists to impose it on others can bring out the worst in human kind. And people like Trump and Netanyahu exploit that hatred and play on their differences rather than their common strengths.
What has happened in Palestine, the pain and sorrow inflicted by the Jews is inexcusable. What the Jews suffered in the holocaust does not justify the genocide that they are committing in Palestine and the atrocities perpetrated on innocent civilians of all ages. It is murder plain and simple. It is ambition, greed, and Netanyahu‘s old dream of domination of the whole region which he shares with his minions.
Thank you for laying out the history. There were many things I did not know about this conflict. There is so much propaganda in the US about this issue
Many thanks for your very enlightening article. I'll readily admit that I had very little idea as to why various proposals of two state solutions were rejected by the Palestinian people. Although it's infuriating to understand more (due to the criminal and unfair treatment of Palestinians) it's also true that being more informed gives me the tools to combat those who would see Palestinians decimated. If Palestine survives, I fear that all Israel has achieved is to breed hatred in a new generation of the people of Palestine. I made it to the end, and await your future articles with deep interest.
You are most welcome Vikki, Hate breeds hate I’m afraid, if someone had killed your entire family or dispossessed them after generations, any human being would want to fight back.
To understand today we must first understand yesterday and how we got here, only then can we apply critical thinking to arrive at a conclusion. This series will hopefully provide the tools to do just that. - Martin
Great review of history - thank you for the well researched analysis. I was very naive a few years ago and never took the time to really understand the complexity of the conflict . Sadly , when the Brits left … the claim over the land was poorly written and borders were not defined . Those offers to negotiate the borders were very one sided … and to this day the exact borders are a “moving yellow line” . But truly - this is exactly the Zionist plan . Keep the land grab going under the guise of “ self defense and preservation “ - a propaganda ploy that suckered many of us to believe in the Israel cause of action - defend and protect the Jews in their homeland . But personally after hearing of the Greater Israel plan ….. I had an awakening.
Today the ongoing drone attacks and killing of unarmed Palestinians- every damn day … in total violation of “ cease fire agreement “ is not even being reported . Why ? Because the IDF has purposely targeted the news reporters in Gaza … against international law. There have been more journalists killed by the IDF than in any other conflict - all wars . This is not accidental. Israel has become a terrorist state . Endless wars , endless land grabs , apartheid rule over Arabs - this is the Zionist regime in action .
Many Jews do not support the Zionist regime. If you are not following Davidsaysstuff on Instagram or YouTube …. He is a Jewish voice taking on the Zionist regime. He speaks with direct experience of how the Israeli people have been indoctrinated into the Zionist ideology.
Thank you, Martin, for this easy to understand explanation of the horrible history of these two peoples. I wish the mainstream news would publish this. The British bear a great deal of blame along with a small cadre of wealthy influencial Palestinians who reportedly went along with this takeover when they could have fought back.
Thank you for taking the time. Those of us with open minds that understand our own country can equal the pain caused to Palestine to the same pain our ancestors caused the Native Americans. But “they “ will never read this copy and pasting talking points is all they can handle. God forbid they are given the truth, in black and white. Why read it..it will bring down their house of cards.
So grateful for your commitment to “dig deep” to unearth the truth and in doing so revealing the depth of human suffering tolerated by misinformation and deception.
Thank you for the tremendous amount of time, effort, and research to create this piece. While I had some personal knowledge of what occurred after 1947, it was very limited in scope. I learn so much from your work.
You’re very kind Deborah. I am of the opinion that if we are going to have a conversation on this contentious subject, then it should be based on fact not fiction. I’ve had the notes for this piece accumulating for a while, it just takes time to arrange them and script an approach that breaks things down into digestible pieces.
The protagonists want it to be confusing, they want to obfuscate and misdirect, having us doubt our sanity, it’s all part of the game and I’m not playing.
Then there’s the hate that accompanies writing about it and the threats, it can be so mentally challenging if you allow it to get to you. I’ve learned how to deal with it now, so it’s become water off a duck’s back, but it’s very real.
Telling folk what they need to hear is much more challenging than telling them what they want to hear. I take my responsibility to inform very seriously. This may not be a high profile account, but it represents who I am and what I believe, so I hold myself to the highest standards.
Few appreciate the hours and hours of work it takes to provide a resource you can visit and relax in the knowledge that I’m not selling a narrative, just a refreshing menu of truth and facts, so I really do appreciate your appreciation. Comments like yours are the fuel that drives me forward to the next post, so THANK YOU.

Agree. We all do.

I hope you'll cover the 1967 war. Also when Israel got nuclear weapons. I'm studying this info thoroughly.
Good point. Maybe it would also be good to cover how we got them and how that plays a role in this substack post.
Please be patient and come back to me at the end of the series

Oh make no mistake, the British Empire is VERY responsible. A point I have made very clear to ministers in my various emails to them.
We have to understand the history BEFORE we can wrap context around where we are today.
Thanks Martin, for another excellent and informative piece. I'll definitely be re-reading it.
My pleasure, I know it takes a little absorbing, but it’s worth the time investment, I promise - Martin

Total insanity.
