When it comes to this regime, given the level of compliance in advance, you could be forgiven for asking. What crisis? Does it involve sacrifice? If so, count me out.
“President Trump doesn't much care if Republicans lose the House and/or the Senate in the midterms this fall.
• Yes, he'd prefer a big win, but he seems indifferent to the election and the possibility of endless Democratic investigations of his family, wealth and policies, his closest advisers tell us.
• A big reason: Trump knows he'll emerge just as strong, or even stronger, heading into his final two years, at least among Republicans.
Why it matters: Trump will enjoy a more pro-Trump Republican Congress, win or lose; gleefully play '28 kingmaker and further test the boundaries of presidential power beyond legislating, his preferred method anyway. He'll use pardons to protect his people, the advisers say.”
Three dramas to watch post-November:
1. Trump will flirt with running again in '28 until the bitter end, but it's all about PR and keeping Vance and Rubio in their place.
2. As potential outside-the-walls competition in '28, the White House is watching Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Sen. Josh Hawley (Mo.).
Most importantly: A constitutional clash over congressional oversight, among the last and most vital powers lawmakers hold dear. What happens if Trump orders his entire administration, family and friends to just ignore Congress?”
From The Peaceful Solution:
The Midterms Will Not Solve the Problem
Most Americans disapprove of His Royal Heinous, but they are looking for an easy solution. One that will not require even a small sacrifice on their part, or any disruption to their life.
They are putting too much faith in what the midterms will do. The midterms may have a beneficial psychologic effect but in reality the outcome will have little or no practical effect, unless the Dems can get 2/3 majority in the house and senate, which they won’t. They will not be able to undo anything His Royal Heinous has done or pass new legislation, because of his veto power.
There will be investigations if the Dems take the House, but to what end. HRH will pardon all perpetrators, and they know it.
They will impeach HRH, but we’ve seen that movie twice before. Convicted in the senate and removed from office? Please.
He will continue to rule by “National Emergency“ and Executive Orders .
The greatest danger in all this is that it will appear that something beneficial is happening. The majority of people will believe the system is working. After about a year they will realize that nothing is changing. Then they will think, Oh well, he’ll be gone after the election next year.
Or will he? It took the Hungarians 16 years to get rid of Orban, and the Project 2025 people will certainly not make the same mistakes that Orban did.
What can we do?
We, the people, still have the power of the purse. No one can control our spending, or lack of spending. The other peaceful options are failing. Time is of the essence. The longer the fascist takeover goes on, the more difficult it will be to undo.
We must go on a spending strike until the business community stops supporting His Royal Heinous and the politicians who enable him.
Nearly 70% of the U.S. economy is driven by consumer spending. You and me. Hobble the economy and the stock market.
Economic warfare is the only thing the oligarchs, the business community, will understand and act on. Call it a Surreptitious General Strike (Quiet Quitting). Go to work, do as little as possible. Stop spending money except on essentials. Quit feeding the corporate beast that supports HRH.
Please: Resist. Stop cooperating. Stop spending. Stop the fascist takeover.
Thank you for restacking, and sharing, to help Spread the Word!
Martin, thank you, as always, for your clarity and excellent ideas. I agree with everything you have suggested, especially the Council of Legislative Elders to encourage the best legislators stay around to lend their expertise and institutional memory.
I have long advocated for a shadow cabinet in the U.S. as well as a national discussion on a switch from a republican form of government to a parliamentary one. As the office of the presidency accrues absurd amounts of power, even before this current regime, for anything approaching a free society to exist, executive power must be reined in and minimized. Pardon power should be entirely eliminated, in my view.
I also applaud your suggestions for limiting campaign time and for public funding. I am beyond sick of fundraising texts and emails.
Please believe that a cohort of people in the U.S. really do understand the global threat posed by what is happening inside these borders. Count on me and others like me to fight this insanity and attempted fascist takeover to our last breath.
Thank you for your kind words and continued support Mary. These are indeed challenging times as money remains the root of all evils when it comes to politics I’m afraid. - Martin
After all you do, researching and thinking up the articles you write, I find it truly dreadful that people would dare ask you for solutions to the situation we got ourselves into. You’re not even an American, yet you try to encourage critical thinking and actions we should take to mitigate the disaster this administration is causing and to, hopefully, end this regime.
It is pure speculation, of course, but I would venture that those who are asking you for answers are the ones who actually didn’t vote, the ones who voted but now say they did not vote for what’s going on right now, or simply Republicans who are trying to find fault with everything you say.
I have been saying for a long time, since I started reading posts and making comments on them, first on Facebook and now here, that hitting the rich Trump supporters in their pocket would bring their Monopoly down. Look at what happened to Tesla last year, when people stopped buying vehicles in protest against what he had done through DOGE. However, soon thereafter, people resumed buying again, and mask resorted to other alternatives making him now a trillionaire. I had told you before in a previous comment, that unfortunately, this is a materialistic society and one that has a sense of entitlement. It is very difficult to change the habits and the mind of such a society unless what’s happened directly impacts its members. Taylor Green did not turn against Trump because she did not believe in what he said anymore, but because what he was doing impacted her and her son. Most of the Republicans who have turned against Trump have been impacted in one way or another by his disastrous policies and decisions.
This reminds me about what a woman said on that documentary, The World at War, when she was asked what she thought of Hitler. She said she hated Hitler because he had deprived them of all of their clothes. And all the people who were murdered and tortured under the regime? Did people like her care about that? Of course not. Do people care about the immigrants these days? Do they care about the genocide in Gaza? Do they care about those who are having to choose between a gallon of gas and a gallon of milk? They don’t unless it affects them.
It all comes down to human nature, I am afraid, sir.
Thank you so very much for your wisdom and for your dedication.
We have another solution but no one seems to care about it. Do not pay federal taxes. Let them live with the red states taxes! The governors of every democratic state to keep the taxes in their states and use them for their needs. A coalition of democrats to create a military state force to defend in the case that red thugs come to make order. Stop feeding the beast! Without our money they will starve.
Forget the peaceful solution, they killed people to fulfill a criminal plan, and filled their private prisons with men without any conviction!
They imprisoned men who paid taxes and were here for decades, decent people who did not deserve this treatment, they deserved citizenship!
America is not a white country, never was, since the first emigrants came, they were of all the colors possible. Crazy that they imprisoned Latinos when they were the first here, they discovered America! How wrong these idiots can be?
The time for peaceful solution, polite conversation, and civilized debate, has passed, we are at the end of the rope and without drastic solutions, we will be stuck for another 10 years with these criminals usurping the country and looting it!
A completely separate body. You will note that even with all Standing House Committees, government is still at the mercy of a dictator. You need a body that is specifically resilient to partisan politics.
Hope those followers with ears painted on can use their eyes to read , re read and absorb your solutions .
I am personally in favor of getting big money out of elections and term limits into our system to stop the cycle of politicians who stay too long and get wrapped up into the PAC game of power and money .
And using your economic power to make a point/ demand is a strategy that might work in the short run. But let me tell you about my weekend . My husbands birthday Friday … went out to a nice restaurant that is usually hard to get a reservation… but that was not a problem . Saturday , ran out to the garden store and hardware store for a few items , parking lot was only half full, store seemed empty. Went to my pool supply store for a new filter , they had gone out of business …. Two other stores didn’t have my model filter in stock - advised to buy it on line . Traffic home on Saturday at 4 was no problem . Passed the gas station …
$ 6.76 a gallon ( thank goodness I have an electric car now) . Streets in my neighborhood were open and no back log ( I live on an island with two state/ federal beach parks that are usually packed on weekends) . Sunday evening - again no traffic . Went for light dinner at a new pizza joint … pepperoni pizza was $47 . 😳. What ? Turned around and went to our neighborhood club for $22 pizza . Club had maybe 25 people seated .
So what is my point ? People are not going out to restaurants, not using their cars $$ to go to the beach and not buying expensive food . People are definitely cutting back … traffic alone is down by 50 % .
So not sure how to squeeze more on people who are leaving Miami because they can’t afford to live here . Rents are very high and modest homes are upwards of 400,000 ( the most expensive city in the US according to recent data) .
We need to get the message across to the Republican Party sycophants and maga morons …. You have two choices
wonderful plan. it makes sense. must be why we dont use it. I will say again, you are not responsible for the solutions, but I believe these would work. I think mandatory voting is a good place to start.

I tried three times to buy you coffee but each time failed.
Thank you Sandy, what error do you get? I’m not aware of any issues, but I will do some investigating.
Is the Council of Elders in addition to standing House Committees ?
