To my embarrassment, I was born in and have lived all of my 80+ years in the United States. Nothing that this government does surprises me. Systemic racism, misogyny, genocide of Native Americans, rape of abundant natural resources, and worship of wealth above all are the core tenets of people who have been in political power at least since 1980. The advances in civil liberties made through LBJ's Great Society have been largely neutralized. I have no doubt that MAGA has FDR's New Deal in its sights also. There have been times when I have felt hopeful that this country would live up to the ideals espoused in its founding documents. Positive things have happened. But with a second civil war already occurring, and the world on the brink of WWIII, my hope has evaporated. I am committed to fighting this fascist regime to my last breath, which could well come at the hands of the Gestapo terrorizing people across this land, much of which was stolen in the 19th century under the banner of "manifest destiny." The United States has so much to answer for. I consider the people who voted for this regime, those who chose not to vote, and the fascist enablers in Congress and SCOTUS to be unindicted co-conspirators. I wish I could see better days ahead, but they do not appear to be in the cards.

We have to tax the rich for self defense because the hoarding of wealth is the cause of poverty, and the rich create it. Why am I not seeing a candidate or elected official saying "I am imposing a wealth tax". Democrats have to campaign on that premise because democracy won't cut it.
