You are most welcome Marlaine

I second what Marlaine wrote. I was shocked at how sloppy most of the troops looked marching and took me some time to realize it may have been due to their distain at having to participate yesterday.

Ditto that ↖️⬆️

So glad that there seemed to be minimal numbers for the orange king felon's personal show. There may still be some hope we can overcome this madness.

How many were at the 2000 antiKING rallies? I see no composite estimates. Seems relatively low not the 3.5% 12m required. Scared disUSA terrifed/ gutless? or sleep walking to Techno Feudal Fascism. Rise up now or never its Germany 1936 and going at warp speed to hell. Blather won't cut it.

Get out and stay out on the streets til its done.

Well, Charlie, which streets will we find you on? Easy to preach to others but you need to be walking the walk yourself.

Charlie Hardy's avatar

You are right but l walk streets some distance from disUSA and have walked, worked on, ran, sat, marched on many like streets in my time.

But the cost to us remains the same.

Fingers crossed 🤞☮️🤞

Thank you for your cogent, detailed analysis. Always good to get that from outside, as a reality check.

One small quibble: I do not fault the troops’ demeanor at the parade. There’s one thing good troops know: “bullshit duty.”

We are (or should be) well past trying to pretend things are normal. Trump got that demeanor the old-fashioned way: he earned it.

Trump is being given his space to be Emperor but the ones who are really controlling the measures are in the background and very quiet. Playing on his ego , they are working together at the moment. But he is a means to an end for them. I don't know further than that, but this didn't happen over night, it's calculated. ( IMO.) I believe also international.

Trump abuses his power because he doesn’t understand the fundamental purpose of political leadership, problem solving. To bring people together to analyze and understand the causes and nature of our problems (poverty, gun violence, education, the deficit, inequality, housing, immigration, homelessness, environmental degradation, etc.) requires someone like PM Mark Carney of Canada who listens, shows respect for different views and encourages colleagues towards finding solutions. Trump has no patience for collaboration. He dominates and disparages, insisting on angry divisive rhetoric and the trappings of leadership without the substance which requires traits he lacks. In short, Trump is a bad leader. His mindset and actions are full of rage and resentment which do more to divide than unite Americans in common cause. As a result the serious problems of our society fester.

And it is a fine mess we find ourselves in. Time will tell. The look on trumps face said it all. What a stupid waste of money. He has no boundaries. I don’t blame the military. Its current ruler is not up for the job.

Rachel Bruner's avatar

The estimated cost of the TRUMP CHARADE came in at approximately $100,000,000

OF OUR TAX DOLLARS.

Unfortunately he doesn’t care about that. He is really oblivious to what could have helped the people. He is by far the worst president ever. I hope he doesn’t make it 4 years. That will be devastating.

I allowed myself to be pulled into an online argument with a MAGA troll trying to tell me Canada doesn't have a King. I admit I got sucked in for a minute before I gave my head a shake and disengaged. I watch from across an, until recently, undefended border holding my breath and hoping. Hoping that the United States citizens will open their collective eyes, put aside the American exceptionalism and finally see what they have become. It makes me sad and somewhat vindicated to witness what happened yesterday. And very. very, proud of those who took a stand and said ENOUGH, our country isn't perfect but it isn't broken as long as we remember the best parts of ourselves. Same goes for Canada.

One sign I saw yesterday at NoKings in Philly was “Trump wears Jesus like a pelt”. And if you expand that to all of MAGA, it is so on point.

I think Trump would love to see any blue city burn. Especially if he could build himself a giant gold house (Domus Aurea) on the ashes.

Thank you as I know with all of us we are not alone to make the change.

Excellently article. Quick thought - Honestly, the Nero graphic is much too flattering. We have to get away from artificially making that man more attractive than his true self. There are plenty of more accurate models and pictures to start from. No image should look enhanced and there’s no reason not to use some of the worst ones.

As someone who attended the April 5th Hands Off event in Elmwood Park Roanoke VA, I was inspired to answer the call. I saw a request to be a sponsor for NoKings in Roanoke. The same Roanoke group had step up to do just that in Roanoke. As fate would have it, they were so how registered as being in the neighboring city of Salem VA. So, I answered the call for Roanoke. It created a little conflict, when this issue came to light this long standing organization, Roanoke Indivisible reached out to ask my group to join them came in. Our first question asked if the had a permit from the City of Roanoke for thier event. They responded that they had not, that the city was aware of them and had not been strict in enforcing it's code. Indivisible Roanoke had already planned an event for that day to celebrate Juneteenth and had decided to incorporate NoKings into that gathering. Our thought, it is bad form to protest a lack of following norms and legality while not doing so.

We, the small group of advisors that I had contacted agreed that we would go forward for that reason and the fact that our chosen location, site of the April Hands Off, had much better parking and wonderful visibility. I believe this is well documented based on two calls I recieved and the conversations that I had with people from the NoKings organization.

I apologize for this long account to report one thing of significant s. The estimated numbers of the Hands Off event April 5th were 1500 to 2500 pertisapates. Based on that and the many people I spoke to at both events, Elmwood Park was notably larger. So with all this said please understand that we believe we had at least 2000 in attendance. We had a truly peaceful day thanks in big part to the support of Roanoke PD and Roanoke Parks and Rec. We have publicly thanked both.

I'm a 72 year old native of the Star City of the South. So called for the, at the time it was created, in 1949 the world's largest neon sign. Roanoke is a unique city in that our populations demographics mirror the countries in regard to everything form racial make up, education, and national heritage.

I am honored to have brought together like minded people to express the collective desire to uphold and defend the principles of the US Constitution which was the focus of our protest.

I will not step forward to lead again but I pledge to stay involved and supportive.
