The Republicans (and now, their MAGA double-extremists) have spent decades abusing the flaws in our laws and the stupidity of too many of our voters such that they have succeeded in capturing minority control of our government. It is, sadly, true that the American citizenry has an ignorant, isolationist bent, yet there are still large numbers of Americans who are gravely distressed by the idiocy of Trump's regime. A majority of the entire country is against it. Of the large minority that cares about international relations, a majority cares about Ukraine. The situation must be hard to assess from abroad because this madness would seem to be impossible by historic standards. Many of us — certainly me included! — are saddened to see the rest of the world suffer the consequences of our collective stupidity.
But this guy and a lot of the commentators seem to think it's a new idea to take money from oligarchs. Congratulating him as if he came up with the idea himself. I just can't understand how even now, when it's so clear that Trumps bitterness, envy and tantrums (led by The Heritage Foundation obvs.) are on a path to destroying everything good in the world and America has finally realised what's been going on in Palestine for decades it's STILL not enough to make them look outside their windows.
YES! Unfreeze the assets for Ukraine! Defeat Russia. Bring Ukraine into the EU! Stand up to the bullies. Try Putin for war crimes. I would even support the Nobel is Trump does all these things, but only if he does.
And immediately after - Putin thumbed his nose at peace and continued bombing? Why is Trump continuing to be allowed to be the negotiator- because Putin knows he can manage Trump.
Time to stand up to Russian aggression - here is how you negotiate with terrorists- no more taco - no more 2 weeks- cut off the legs.
Strong secondary sanctions on Russian oil- India China Turkey Iran- biggest importers- make them stop supporting Russian economy, by making Russian oil unattractive.
Frozen Russian assets in European banks- seize them
And use them to support Ukraine. It’s a penalty of invading another country.
Release all kidnapped Ukrainian children.
No more meetings with Putin by Trump-unless demands are met- then “we’ll see”.
Tell Russia- Ukraine is going to join NATO unless you immediately withdraw from invaded territory.
I completely support the ideas here about supporting Ukraine and showing strength against the vile Putin. However, there is some normalising of Trump here that doesn’t fit for me with how he actually is. He is and always has been transactional, but I believe the reason now that his actions don’t make sense is that his dementia is advancing rapidly. There may indeed be kompromat, but he has lost the capacity (if he ever had much) to link actions and consequences in any rational manner. His gait, his rambling speeches, his inability to manage his body all point to increasing dementia.
